What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales, change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

• Leading a high-performing team of ~10 engineers within the Editing Core group, including senior and staff-level engineers

• Collaborating with product and technical leads to drive critical architecture improvements across the Canva Editor

• Owning and executing large, cross-functional engineering initiatives that impact the entire editing experience

• Scaling the team’s capability through coaching, mentoring, and fostering technical excellence

• Shaping the future of collaborative editing, offline functionality, and performance across Canva's editing architecture

• Influencing roadmap planning and aligning technical goals with broader company strategy

You're probably a match if:

• You’ve previously led high-impact technical teams and coached engineers at various stages of their careers

• You bring deep frontend or architectural experience and understand the nuances of performance, scalability, and maintainability

• You're comfortable navigating ambiguity, connecting dots across teams, and making bold technical decisions

About the team

The Editing Core team is on a mission to scale the foundational building blocks of the Canva Editor. We're the team behind some of the most critical parts of Canva’s product – from document schema and selection logic to real-time collaboration and offline editing. We enable Canva’s magic by building reliable, performant, and scalable systems that other teams depend on to innovate with confidence and speed.

About the role

We’re looking for a senior manager who is not afraid to jump into the complex space that is the core Editor architecture. You’ll be managing a senior team of engineers to improve and evolve the foundational pieces that make up the Canva Editor. We are often brought early into some of the amazing initiatives that are happening across the company so you’ll get a chance to shape these from the core up.

We are seeking someone who wants to be in the thick of it - working across technical design, code architecture, hiring, engagement with key stakeholders across the business, and professional growth and development of the people they lead.
