As a Senior Engineering Manager focused on Suppliers and Accounting team, you will be accountable for the delivery of solutions supporting business goals, releasing features that drive value for our internal teams and Toast customers. Leading a highly skilled and fast-paced team of Engineers, you will be responsible for validating technical decisions and guiding the team in building scalable technology. You will seek engagement with business stakeholders, demoing solutions to gather feedback as often as possible as part of our agile delivery framework. When the time comes to test our solutions for quality, you are managing the engagement of our development teams with their QA counterparts, ensuring testing is robust enough to provide confidence in release. When issues are found, including those in our production environments, you are providing oversight and guidance to the teams root causing and developing the fixes. This role will have a wide area of ownership supported by key Senior engineers, in addition to the Knowledge Management ecosystem. You will be a critical leader for the team and deliver high impact with great opportunity for future growth.

As a Senior Engineering Manager on our team, you will:

• Drive overall technical architecture, design, build and launch features/improvements on our platform. 
• Deliver  high-impact complex projects that may span multiple teams and amplify impact by aligning organizations toward coherent architectural strategies
• Drive delivery of business outcomes across multiple teams, including planning and execution 
• Collaborate closely with Product Management and UX to get actionable, valuable work defined for the team
• Lead collaborative discovery and execution ceremonies for engineering, research, design, and quality assurance peers.
• Ensure end-to-end delivery of software, including team ownership of monitoring and production issue remediation.
• Manage the daily activities of Engineers who are delivering new features and enhancements critical to Toast's business growth.
• Coach individuals in professional and technical development to set up for their success
• Hire and mentor Team Leads and Senior Technical Staff members to ensure their success at Toast

Do you have the right ingredients? (Experience)

• 12+ years of experience managing agile software engineering teams designing and building software products in a fast paced, complex, and dynamic product development environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• A Full-stack expert having expertise in building applications revolving around technology stacks like Java, Kotlin, JavaScript, React JS, Node JS, Spring Boot, Spring, Kafka, Redis etc. Also, in-depth knowledge on Application design, Testing capabilities, Design & building Microservices.
• Extensive hands-on experience building distributed applications and managing the development of complex, large scale enterprise applications and products that require a deep understanding of application logic and dependencies.
• Experience managing large engineering teams.
• Proven experience attracting, hiring, retaining and leading top engineering talent and high-performance product engineering teams.
• Experience with Scrum, Kanban, or another Agile application development methodology.
• Proven ability to influence decision-making at all levels within an organization, and in a variety of contexts.
• A bias towards action, with the ability to balance between getting things done and making things perfect
• Knowledge CI/CD, system testing, test automation. Experience in infrastructure, application monitoring, platform stabilization and service performance are a plus.

Our Tech Stack

Our products run on a stack that ranges from guest and restaurant-facing Android tablets to backend services in Java to internal, guest-facing and restaurant-facing web apps. Our backend services follow a microservice architecture written using Java and Kotlin on DropWizard; we use AWS extensively, ranging from S3 to RDS to DynamoDB to Lambda. We have our own platform for dealing with service elevations and robust load balancing. We store data in PostgreSQL databases or DynamoDB tables depending on use case, and utilize Apache Spark for large scale data workloads including query and batch processing. The web frontend is built using React and ES6. Our restaurant point of sale application is an Android application written in Java and Kotlin. Apache Pulsar and Camel are used extensively in our integration transaction workflow processing.
