Job Description

As a Senior Environment Artist, you will be responsible for taking charge of the environment of a game level. This includes creating models, kits, and textures for architectural environments, and composing architecture-heavy game scenes. You will also participate in research, ensure consistency with the art direction, and collaborate with design to support gameplay. Additionally, you will mentor junior and mid-level artists, manage memory budgets, and present your work to the team. The role requires a strong understanding of art direction, technical proficiency, and the ability to work collaboratively. The candidate will also be responsible for delegating and sharing tasks with other artists of the same level, and to be able to accompany people with less experience so that they can contribute to the project.

SENIOR ENVIRONMENT ARTIST

Reports to: Art Director

Permanent – Full-Time

 

What you will do

  • Take charge of the environment of a game level;
  • Creation of models, kits, and textures for architectural environments;
  • Composition of architecture heavy game scenes;
  • Participate in the research of references corresponding to the art direction;
  • Ensure the consistency of the environment art with the art direction;
  • Collaborate closely with design to support the gameplay and resolve challenges;
  • Be a point person for artistic and technical support to the junior(s) and mid-level artist(s) who work on the team;
  • Maintenance of memory budget and good performances;
  • Present his/her work to the team and directors and receive comments, suggestions, modifications;
  • Know how to delegate and share tasks with other artists of the same level, and to be able to accompany people with less experience so that they can contribute to the project.

 

What you bring

  • The following levels are open, with corresponding minimum years of experience:
  • Intermediate with 3 years of experience and at least 1 published title in video games, AAA quality, as a Level or Environment Artist;
  • Senior with 6 years of experience and at least 2 titles published in video games, AAA quality, as a Level or Environment Artist;
  • University or college degree in 3D Art, or relevant experience;
  • Experience creating objects or environments with 3D software (preferably Blender or Maya);
  • Experience creating and working with modular architectural kits;
  • Experience creating textures and manipulating shaders;
  • Knowledge of Substance Designer a plus;
  • Good technical/artistic balance.
