Job Description

Radical Forge is seeking an experienced and reliable Mid-Level 3D Artist to take an art leadership role on a small project. The role involves defining art deliverables, reviewing work, mentoring junior team members, and ensuring consistent art quality. Responsibilities include 3D modelling, texturing, optimization, time estimation, and problem-solving artistic development challenges within game engines like Unity or Unreal. The ideal candidate is a team player with an inclusive and empathetic approach.

Must Have:
  • Take ownership of defining art deliverables, quality, and player experience.
  • Review work of other team members and act as an art team lead.
  • Tackle most art tasks, aiding others and documenting processes.
  • Meet time estimates and polish existing work.
  • Guide and mentor art staff, demonstrating creativity in problem-solving.
  • Set artistic standards for the team and track consistent art quality.
  • Assist in correcting or fixing art and technical issues, addressing bugs promptly.
  • Solid working knowledge of game engines (Unity preferred, Unreal Engine nice to have).
  • Good knowledge of working within Unity and/or Unreal Engines.
  • Modelling and texturing of props and environment assets / environment construction.
  • Optimization of assets and collision data for memory and frame rate across multiple platforms.
  • High to Low polygon workflow.
  • Experience of shader based texture/material workflows.
  • Experience using Maya, Blender, 3DS max, ZBrush.
  • Adobe Suite including Substance painter/designer and Photoshop.
  • Experience documenting processes in Confluence, Miroo or similar.
  • Version Control software (Perforce, GIT).
  • Has multiple project life cycles under their belt.
  • Task Management (Jira).
  • Adaptive communication skills, written & spoken.
  • Experience through all phases of development.
  • Pre-existing right to work in the UK.

Your Mission

We are looking for a reliable and experienced 3D artist. You will be taking an art leadership role on a small project, working collaboratively alongside other disciplines. We are seeking someone ready to hit the ground running, a team player with an inclusive and empathetic approach to teamwork. Should have varied stylized art experience

Core responsibilities

Art direction - On a per project basis as directed, take ownership of defining art deliverables, quality, and player experience - undertaking the work and delegating appropriately to achieve outcomes.

Reviewing Work & Feedback- Able to act as an art team lead either across a pod of artists or by taking ownership of an area / level. Assist with reviewing work of other team members. Work in a management capacity in absence of a lead.

Modelling - Will be able to tackle most art tasks. Aiding others with tasks to help the overall project schedule. Documenting processes and working 1-on-1 with more junior team members.

Time Estimation - Meeting time estimates and utilising remaining time to get ahead on future work or to polish existing work for that extra 5-10% visual quality.

Process & Pipelines- Showing leadership skills, guiding and mentoring art staff and demonstrating creativity in problem-solving of artistic development challenges. Tackling lighting and optimization development.

Ongoing Improvement - Being an artistic standard setter for the team in areas of expertise. Demonstrates best practices consistently and can be relied on by the team lead to track and manage consistent art quality.

Tools & Asset Management - Assisting in correcting or fixing art and technical issues noticed in the project. Addressing bugs promptly and working with the art team to mitigate future problems.

Engine Experience - Solid working knowledge of game engines (Unity preferred, Unreal Engine nice to have) and can assist on other projects as needed. Using knowledge of features of each engine to the table to suggest tools and pipelines or general principles that may be transferred across with some technical development.
