Rebellion is seeking a talented and experienced Senior Environment Artist to join their team in Oxford, England. This role is crucial for driving the visual quality of an unannounced title, building on the success of their previous projects like the Sniper Elite series. The Senior Environment Artist will be responsible for the end-to-end creation of environment art, crafting visually compelling scenes that align with the project's artistic vision and technical requirements. Key responsibilities include planning and building levels in collaboration with level designers, creating functional and shareable assets, and ensuring high technical and artistic quality. The role also involves acting as a mentor and role model for the Environment Art team, fostering a creative and supportive atmosphere. The ideal candidate will have expert knowledge of 3D software like 3D Studio Max, Maya, and Blender, proficiency in sculpting packages such as Zbrush or Mudbox, and an understanding of real-time render engines and PBR material pipelines. Must have:
  • Planning and building entire levels with level design

For 30 years we’ve been independently developing and publishing incredible video games at our multiple studios founded by Jason & Chris Kingsley, but Rebellion is more than just games. We have our own film studio, we create board games, publish books, and through 2000AD, publish comics and graphic novels such as the amazing Judge Dredd. 

We’re looking for a talented and experienced Senior Environment Artist to help drive the visual quality of an exciting unannounced title. This is a fantastic opportunity to join the team behind the Sniper Elite series and fresh off the success of Atomfall, our biggest launch to date. 

In this senior role, you’ll take ownership of environment art creation, crafting visually compelling scenes that not only push our aesthetic standards but also enrich the player experience. You’ll be responsible for delivering high-quality assets, ensuring they meet both the technical requirements and the project's artistic vision. 

As a key member of the Environment Art team, your experience will help shape the visual identity of a major new project. You’ll also collaborate closely across disciplines, contributing to a creative and supportive development culture. 

This role is based at our riverside headquarters in Oxford, offering a creative and relaxed atmosphere where teamwork drives our success. Responsibilities

  • Planning and building entire levels together with level design, with consideration of visual storytelling and memorable aesthetics.
  • Create functional assets which can be shared across the project in respect of the technical and artistic constraints.  
  • Communicate and collaborate with key stakeholders to confirm task direction and consistency of own work.  
  • Ensure the technical and artistic quality of the project by collaborating with Technical Artists and the Environment Art Team, and make changes when necessary
  • Support the Lead Artist in any ad hoc tasks and duties.  
  • Be an active mentor and role model for the Environment Art team. Work to maintain morale and create an atmosphere of creativity and enthusiasm.  
  • Expert knowledge 3d software such as 3D Studio Max, Maya and Blender.  
  • Excellent knowledge 3D sculpting packages such as Zbrush or Mudbox.  
  • An understanding of modelling processes hi-res sculpting, baking textures and material/shader setup in a real-time render engine.  
  • Good knowledge of PRB material pipeline/substance.  
  • An understanding of composition and visual story telling.  
  • Good knowledge of the video game development process.  
  • Experience of training and mentoring other artists.
