We’re looking for a Senior Desktop Support Engineer to join our LA studio and provide hands-on technical support across all departments, from artists and production teams to studio leadership. This role involves the setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of workstations, software applications, and core infrastructure systems across Windows, Linux, and Mac platforms. You’ll help streamline user onboarding, maintain system health, and participate in ongoing process improvement efforts to support the fast-paced demands of media production workflows.
As part of a team, you’ll play a key role in troubleshooting, maintaining, and improving our desktop and network environment, helping ensure our creative teams can stay focused on what they do best—creating incredible animation.
About the Role:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all desktop, hardware, and software support issues across the studio.
- Lead the installation, configuration, and maintenance of workstations, peripherals, and studio equipment.
- Provide technical assistance for Visual Effects applications such as Nuke, Maya, Houdini and After Effects.
- Maintain and improve studio network infrastructure in collaboration with the Systems Engineering team including switch configuration, VLAN management, DNS and DHCP troubleshooting.
- Proactively identify and implement process improvements to increase system stability and user efficiency.
- Work with Pipeline and Engineering teams to ensure compatibility between creative tools, render nodes, and production infrastructure.
- Mentor junior IT staff and provide guidance on troubleshooting best practices and studio systems.
- Maintain documentation of systems, assets, and standard operating procedures.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and access across systems including Active Directory, Google Workspace, and various production tools.
- Support studio onboarding and offboarding, ensuring smooth setup for all new hires.
- Collaborate with IT and Pipeline teams on infrastructure upgrades, testing, and new tool integrations.
About You:
- 5+ years of desktop support or helpdesk experience, ideally in a Media, VFX, Animation, or Post-Production environment.
- Experience supporting Windows + Mac workstations in a production environment.
- Experience with Linux OS such as RHEL, CentOS, Rocky Linux.
- Experience with Bacula, BareOS, or equivalent backup and recovery tools for managing data integrity and system reliability.
- Experience with floating license servers such as FlexLM or RLM.
- Clear communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Preferred Skills
- Basic scripting ability in Bash, PowerShell, CMD, or Python.
- Degree or diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field preferred.
- Industry certifications such as CompTIA A+, Microsoft MCP, RHEL, or CCNA are a plus.
- Proficient in project management methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, Kanban) with strong skills in scheduling, risk management, stakeholder communication, and cross-team coordination.
- Familiarity with render pipelines or high-performance computing environments.
