Job Description

This role provides strategic finance support to the Global Facilities Group, overseeing operational and capital expense planning and execution. Key responsibilities include leading annual operating plans, managing monthly/quarterly close processes, conducting financial analysis for capital investments, implementing service cost models, and building long-term Facilities/Real Estate roadmaps. The role requires strong technical, analytical, communication, and presentation skills, and involves partnering cross-functionally to drive strategic decision-making and developing a finance team.
Must Have:
  • Lead development & management of Global Facilities departmental annual operating plans (Operating Expense & Capital Expenditures)
  • Oversee and direct monthly/quarterly close process (operating expense management, general ledger reviews, headcount reviews, accruals)
  • Lead financial analysis for capital committee review pertaining to Global Facilities investments
  • Partner with Global Facilities to implement a scalable service cost model
  • Build & manage the long-term Facilities/Real Estate roadmap
  • Guide and review construction in progress (CIPs) and ensure alignment of real estate/construction projects with Enterprise objectives
  • Develop FP&A tools and processes to support Global Facilities functions worldwide
  • Create monthly packages for financial management reporting (variance explanations, forecast updates, scenario planning)
  • Coordinate monthly financial management reporting process to consolidate and report on variances to Global Facilities objectives
  • Partner with Global Facilities team for financial modeling, analytics, forecasting, and internal Finance support
  • Utilize financial systems (Cognos TM1, Cognos BI, SAP)
  • Prepare financial analysis to understand costs, benefits, and ROI for strategic projects
  • Work on complex assignments requiring conceptual thinking, translating data into key strategic inputs and actionable insights
  • Lead and develop a team, providing coaching, performance management, and day-to-day direction
  • Develop a keen understanding of Illumina’s business today and future insights
  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 12 years of related experience, with 3-6 years of Management experience
  • Experience in supporting facilities function or experience in real estate/construction project finance, lease accounting, or facilities management
  • Outstanding financial acumen
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
  • Strong Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and COGNOS TM1 (or equivalent financial planning & analysis tool)

Position Summary:

This role will have primary responsibility for providing strategic finance support to our Global Facilities Group, including ownership of all operational and capital expense planning and execution needs. Additionally, this position requires strong technical, analytical, communication and presentation skills, along with a willingness to partner closely and collaborate cross-functionally with all organizations in the business. This role will report directly to the Director of Finance.

*This is a full-time role, Monday through Friday, with an expectation of 2- 3 in-office days per week and additional on-site presence as needed. The individual must reside in the San Diego area and be able to commute to our corporate offices.*

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development & management of Global Facilities departmental annual operating plans including Operating Expense & Capital Expenditures
  • Oversee and direct the monthly/quarterly close process as it pertains to operating expense management, general ledger reviews, headcount reviews, accruals, and other related processes
  • Lead financial analysis for capital committee review pertaining to Global Facilities investments
  • Partner with Global Facilities to implement a scalable service cost model
  • Build & manage the long-term Facilities/Real Estate roadmap
  • Guide and review construction in progress (CIPs) and ensure alignment of real estate/construction projects with Enterprise objectives
  • Develop FP&A tools and processes to support the Global Facilities functions worldwide
  • Create monthly packages to be utilized for financial management reporting, including variance explanations, forecast updates, scenario planning and other analysis
  • Coordinate the monthly financial management reporting process to consolidate and report on variances to Global Facilities objectives. Interact with Global Facilities budget managers to review actual results and variances to budgets and forecast; Update quarterly rolling forecasts
  • Partner with the Global Facilities team to provide financial modeling, analytics, forecasting and general internal Finance support
  • Utilize financial systems to complete tasks (i.e. Cognos TM1, Cognos BI and SAP)
  • Prepare financial analysis to understand costs, benefits, and return on investment for strategic projects
  • Work on complex assignments requiring conceptual thinking, translating data into key strategic inputs and actionable insights that will drive strategic decision making
  • Lead and develop a team, providing coaching, performance management, and day-to-day direction. Responsible for hiring, onboarding, workload prioritization, and supporting people matters in alignment with company
  • Develop a keen understanding of Illumina’s business today, and critical insights into where it is going in the future allowing for innovative concepts and the promotion of new ideas

Requirements:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 12 years of related experience, with 3-6 years of Management experience, preferably in a high growth environment.
  • Experience in supporting facilities function or experience in real estate/construction project finance, lease accounting, or facilities management
  • Outstanding financial acumen blended with business partnering to evaluate and solve complex problems and the strategic implications of different business approaches
  • Exceptional commitment to accuracy and quality while meeting goals or deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills and ability to establish strong rapport and influence stakeholders in sensitive and complex situations while preserving relationships
  • Self-directed and able to work well and communicate effectively in a team environment. Hands on and able to work with minimal supervision

  • Strong Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and COGNOS TM1 (or equivalent financial planning & analysis tool)

The estimated base salary range for the Senior Manager Finance, Global Facilities (San Diego/Hybrid) role based in the United States of America is: $138,800 - $208,200. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
