Senior Manager, Software Engineering

• Proven technical and people leader with extensive expertise across big data, full stack development, and distributed systems design, enabling teams to build scalable and impactful solutions.
• Strong system design, architectural, and problem-solving skills, with hands-on experience designing and reviewing complex microservices, high-concurrency systems, and data platforms.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to influence executive stakeholders, collaborate across partner teams, and represent engineering in business strategy discussions.
• Deep understanding of database principles, including SQL optimization, data modeling (logical and physical), and schema design for relational and NoSQL databases to support transactional and analytical workloads.
• Expert knowledge of JavaScript frameworks such as Vue.js, React.js, or Angular.js, building performant and intuitive frontends integrated with robust backend services.
• Strong backend development experience with Node.js, Java, and asynchronous programming patterns, designing secure, maintainable, and scalable APIs and services.
• Expertise in multiple programming and scripting languages, including Unix/Linux Shell Scripting, JavaScript, Python, Java, and Scala, enabling effective leadership of diverse engineering initiatives.
• Extensive familiarity with big data technologies such as Google Cloud Platform (GCS, Big Query, Pub/Sub), Hadoop ecosystem (Spark, HBase, Hive, Pig, Druid), and event-driven, streaming, and batch processing architectures.
• Solid understanding of emerging AI and Machine Learning technologies, with practical experience integrating AI-driven solutions into production systems to drive business value.
• Good understanding of business domains, including payments, regulatory compliance, enterprise risk, and e-commerce, ensuring solutions are aligned with strategic goals and compliance needs.
• Demonstrated success in leading system design and architecture reviews, driving engineering best practices, technical debt management, and long-term scalability decisions.
• Strong ability to mentor and grow senior engineers, fostering technical excellence, ownership, and career development while ensuring alignment to organizational objectives.
• Proven capability to drive technical build-up, influence partner architecture decisions, and establish standards in big data, full stack, and cloud-native solutions across teams.

Key responsibilities include:

• Act as a strategic leader and advocate for your team and organization, fostering a high-performance engineering culture rooted in technical excellence, ownership, and innovation.
• Manage, develop, and scale an effective and efficient engineering organization, driving talent growth, technical build-up, and alignment with business objectives.
• Provide strong technical leadership in system design and architecture reviews, guiding teams to build scalable, reliable, and high-performing solutions across full stack and big data domains.
• Partner closely with PayPal business units, Product Development, and cross-functional stakeholders to design, build, and deliver innovative solutions on one of the world’s largest data platforms.
• Drive the creation of valuable data assets and AI-enabled solutions using techniques such as image processing, object detection, speech recognition, natural language processing, recommendation systems, forecasting, and multimodal learning to unlock business value.
• Lead the design and development of data models, enriching analytical data sources to enhance usability, performance, and availability using advanced big data and cloud-native technologies.
• Deliver solutions that provide actionable data, insights, and AI-powered analytics to enable effective enterprise risk management, predictive insights, and informed decision-making across PayPal.
• Champion engineering best practices, including microservices design, event-driven architecture, data modeling, and integration of emerging AI design patterns into production systems.
• Collaborate across teams and partner organizations to identify complex challenges, design innovative solutions, and drive alignment on technical direction, priorities, and long-term strategy.

• Mentor and coach senior engineers, fostering technical and leadership growth to build a resilient, adaptive, and high-impact team capable of delivering strategic business outcomes.
• Represent engineering with executives, customers, and external partners, influencing decisions and ensuring that technology solutions are aligned with organizational goals and compliance requirements.
