The Maps Places Data team is seeking a Senior ML Software Engineer to develop next-generation algorithms for improving and maintaining the quality of Points of Interest in the global maps database. This role involves leveraging spatiotemporal signals and various data sources, from aerial imagery to user feedback, to ensure accuracy and operate globally.

Must Have

  • 7+ years of experience in building large scale machine learning systems.
  • Strong programming skills in Scala, Python, Java, or C++.
  • Hands-on experience with machine learning tools and libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-learn.
  • Knowledge of Spark, Solr/Lucene, Cassandra, and related big data technologies.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.

Good to Have

  • Strong spatial aptitude and intuition for algorithm design in the mapping domain.
  • Experience with classical computer vision techniques and modern solutions based on foundation models.

The Maps Places Data team uses a variety of spatiotemporal signals to improve and maintain the quality of all Places of Interest in the global maps database. We’re looking for an ML engineer with the curiosity and expertise to create the next generation of algorithms and processes to solve these challenging problems.

Our team is responsible for the accuracy of a variety of attributes for the Points of Interest in the map database. We produce algorithms and processes that can operate globally, leveraging all available signals from aerial imagery to users’ feedback.

  • 7+ years of experience in building large scale machine learning systems.
  • Strong programming skills and hands-on experience with machine learning tools and libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-learn; programming skills in Scala, Python, Java, or C++
  • Knowledge of Spark, Solr/Lucene, Cassandra, and related big data technologies
  • Metrics focused and passionate about delivering models that render high quality results
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Solid track record of delivering complex ML-powered features.
  • Strong spatial aptitude and intuition for algorithm design in the mapping domain
  • Experience with classical computer vision techniques and modern solutions based on foundation models

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $181,100 and $318,400, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs. Employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
