As Senior Publisher Tax Law, you play a key role in the development and renewal of our tax law portfolio. The portfolio includes market-leading journals such as the weekly VakstudieNieuws and the leading website for tax professionals in the Netherlands. You combine market insight with strategic thinking and know exactly which content, formats, and digital solutions meet the needs of tax professionals. With your experience and network, you elevate our publications and contribute to the success of thousands of users. The main goal is to achieve quantitative, qualitative, and financial objectives for the assigned portfolio, including tax journals, events, and daily tax news.
Must Have:
  • Realize revenue and profitability targets for the assigned portfolio and demonstrably manage them.
  • Oversee the realization and development of publishing products in accordance with planning and agreed standards.
  • Develop and maintain a premium quality author network and ensure authors see Wolters Kluwer as the best partner.
  • Recruit authors, conduct contract negotiations, and formalize contractual relationships.
  • Make agreements with authors on content delivery, content, and topicality.
  • Analyze monthly realized revenue and costs in relation to budget and running estimate.
  • Report monthly on author management, content quality, and process improvements.
  • Provide timely input for various LEs, VSP, and the annual budget.

Senior Publisher Tax Law

As Senior Publisher Tax Law, you play a key role in the (further) development and renewal of our tax law portfolio. The portfolio includes market-leading journals, including the weekly VakstudieNieuws and the leading website for tax professionals in the Netherlands. You combine market insight with strategic thinking and know exactly which content, formats, and digital solutions meet the needs of tax professionals. The main goal of this position is the realization of the quantitative, qualitative, and financial objectives of the assigned portfolio. In this role, you will be responsible for tax journals such as Vakstudie Nieuws and Weekblad Fiscaal Recht, events including the annual Stevensprijs, and daily tax news (VN Vandaag and Taxlive).

Portfolio management

You realize revenue and profitability targets for the assigned portfolio and demonstrably manage them. You oversee the realization and further development of publishing products in accordance with planning, agreed standards, and promote content reuse. Responsibilities within portfolio management include:

  • Is responsible for revenue and profitability for the assigned portfolio;
  • Sets up strategic, tactical, and operational plans for (publishing) projects;
  • Is responsible for the realization of content in accordance with the editorial formulas agreed within Wolters Kluwer;
  • Ensures that content, where applicable, can be reused within other propositions;
  • Manages and develops the portfolio in a systematic way so that it meets market needs and maximizes returns;
  • Analyzes the use of titles in its own portfolio and develops ideas to increase their use (data-driven publishing);
  • Coordinates with the Publishing Manager which new content or products can be developed and can deliver this project-based and systematically.

Author management

Develops and maintains a premium quality author network and promotes authors seeing Wolters Kluwer as the best partner to work with. Responsibilities within author management include:

  • Develops and maintains a balanced, representative, high-quality, and loyal author network for the maintenance and development of the editorial formulas of the portfolio;
  • Recruits authors, conducts contract negotiations, and formalizes the contractual relationship using the standard contracts used by Wolters Kluwer;
  • Makes main agreements with authors on content delivery, content, and topicality;
  • Maintains contacts with (potential) authors and ensures a continuous influx of new (young) authors to guarantee the continuity of the portfolio's content and to continuously respond to market demands;
  • Is aware of developments in the author market. Is proactive when it comes to opportunities for recruiting new and/or authoritative authors for Wolters Kluwer;
  • Approaches and treats authors and editorial teams in the context of author management in such a way that Wolters Kluwer is seen by authors and editorial teams as a premium partner for publishing.

Monthly reporting/Budget/VSP

Monthly reporting on revenue and costs including analysis. Contribute to the realization of LE rounds. Contribute to the annual Budget and VSP. Is able to provide clear reports. Your tasks in the field of reporting and budgeting include:

  • Analyzes monthly the realized amounts regarding revenue and costs in relation to budget and running estimate;
  • Reports monthly on author management, content quality, process improvements;
  • Provides the requested input for the various LEs and the VSP in a timely manner;
  • Provides the requested input for the budget for the coming year in a timely manner, after prior consultation with the Publishing Manager.

Education, experience and competencies:

  • University level working and thinking;
  • Extensive experience with content formulas, online content disclosure, and working with external editorial teams and authors;
  • Initiative; Identifies bottlenecks and opportunities. Takes (un)solicited action on these;
  • Cost-conscious; Strives for good solutions at the lowest possible cost in time and money;
  • Network-oriented; Establishes and maintains contacts that may be important now and in the future for achieving WKNL's goals and results;
  • Organizationally sensitive; Knows what is happening in the organization's environment and effectively uses this knowledge. Is organizationally sensitive and able to adapt his/her behavior accordingly where relevant;
  • Results-oriented; Translates goals into results and knows how to achieve the desired result efficiently and effectively within the set time and costs.

  • This position is available for a minimum of 32 hours and a maximum of 36 hours (36-hour work week);
