Job Description

The Senior Rigging Artist will be responsible for building and maintaining animator-friendly control rigs for 3D characters, creatures, and props using the in-house Maya rigging pipeline. They will also develop and maintain rigging tools and scripts to accelerate rig setup and automate repetitive tasks. The role involves preparing and exporting rigged assets into game engines and ensuring compatibility with in-house import pipelines. The candidate will need to document tools and processes, and proactively seek innovative solutions to technical challenges. The team is looking for someone who can work in a collaborative environment.
Must have:
  • 5+ years in a Technical Animator/Technical Artist role.
  • Deep understanding of weight-painting workflows and skinning algorithms.
  • Balance visual fidelity with real-time performance constraints.
  • Strong understanding of animation principles.
  • Proficient in Python, MEL, or MaxScript for tool creation and pipeline scripting.
Good to have:
  • C++ and C# or other programming languages.
  • Familiarity with package management and deployment systems.

Senior Rigging Artist

Elsewhere Entertainment is looking for a Senior Rigging Artist to join the development of an exciting new IP.
 
You will become and be part of a tight-knit team that prides itself on creating complex, high-quality and believable content. 


Using your experience, on this project you will positively contribute to our studio — with a focus on inclusivity, mutual respect (for ourselves and our players), thoughtfulness, empathy, professionalism, and collaboration.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain animator-friendly control rigs for 3D characters, creatures, and props using the in-house Maya rigging pipeline
  • Develop and maintain rigging tools, scripts, and pipeline integrations (Python, MEL, MaxScript) to accelerate rig setup and automate repetitive tasks
  • Familiarity with cutting-edge techniques (e.g., data-driven or scan-based rig generation, machine-learning-assisted blend-shapes)
  • Prepare and export rigged assets from Maya into game engien, ensuring compatibility with in-house import pipelines and automated build systems
  • Document tools, workflows, and processes in a clear and user-friendly manner.
  • Proactively seek innovative solutions to technical challenges in animation and character systems.

Need to Have:

  • 5+ years in a Technical Animator/Technical Artist or Character TD role, with a strong focus on rigging systems for games or high-end CG production
  • Deep understanding of weight-painting workflows and skinning algorithms to produce lifelike deformations
  • Balance visual fidelity with real-time performance constraints; profile rigs in engine and optimize controls, skin weights, and deformation quality
  • Strong understanding of animation principles and their application in both keyframe and procedural animation.
  • Proficient in Python, MEL, or MaxScript for tool creation and pipeline scripting
  • Experience with setting up offline and/or real-time simulation rigs for cloth, hair, physics-based and dynamic systems.

Nice to Have:

  • C++ and C# or other programming languages.
  • Familiarity with package management and deployment systems like Rez and PyPI.
