Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to manage Live and Linear airings across Disney+ and Hulu. This role involves ingesting airings, managing linear schedules, handling contract resolutions, and developing tools for live events and stream health. Responsibilities include crafting web applications for scheduling, managing AWS infrastructure, improving system scale, fostering collaboration, building quality products, and providing on-call support. The team focuses on marrying technology with creativity to enhance storytelling and drive innovation for Disney's media businesses globally.
Must have:
  • Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • 6+ years developing software products
  • Java or other Object-oriented programming language
  • Advanced English proficiency
  • Experience with AWS and cloud infrastructure
  • Media player integration in web apps
  • Knowledge of web accessibility and standards
  • Familiarity with async programming
  • Understanding of concurrency and threading
Good to have:
  • Skilled in Git, CI/CD, Jenkins, Docker
  • Experience with messaging systems (Kafka, Kinesis, SQS)

How will you contribute to our magical experience?

This team is responsible for the management of Live and Linear airings across the Disney+ and Hulu spaces. This means ingesting airings as CNF from Metal, managing linear schedules to ensure no gaps or overlaps between airings on a single channel, contract resolution for blackout or features such as replay/lookback, as well as tools for the management of airings, live events, and stream health and fallback logic.

The Senior Software Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Craft web applications specific to the managing of live and linear scheduling for the DTC services.
  • Manage AWS infrastructure supporting the EPG and scheduling ecosystems.
  • Work on improving system scale and throughput for handling high concurrency.
  • Contribute to a culture of collaboration and innovation.
  • Build quality products.
  • Provide on-call rotational support as needed.

What we need from you to be part of this story:

  • Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.

  • 6+ years developing software products.

  • Experience in programming with Java or any other Object-oriented programming language.

  • Advanced level of English.

  • Experience with AWS and cloud infrastructure.

  • Media player integration in web apps.

  • Knowledge of web accessibility and standards.

  • Familiar with async programming (promises, async/await, etc.).

  • Understanding of concurrency and threading.

  • Skilled in Git, CI/CD, Jenkins, Docker (is a plus).

  • Experience with messaging systems (Kafka, Kinesis, SQS) is a plus.
