WebMD Ignite is seeking a Senior Search Engineer passionate about leveraging cutting-edge search technology to improve patient lives. The role involves defining search strategy across all products, architecting and implementing advanced search capabilities using semantic search with Vector DB and LLM integration via Elasticsearch 8 Platinum. Responsibilities include developing and enhancing search applications, driving strategic decision-making for search capabilities, collaborating with product, design, content, and data science teams, and championing best practices in search engineering. The ideal candidate will also mentor peers and share knowledge.
Must have:

As a Sr. Search Engineer, you'll shape the future of healthcare by architecting intelligent search solutions that ensure the correct information reaches the right people at the right time. You'll help lead our search strategy across all products while collaborating with a dynamic, diverse team of engineers, product managers, designers, and data scientists who share your commitment to innovation and excellence.
 
What You'll Do: 
  • Define Search Strategy: Lead and define the search strategy across all our products.
  • Pioneer Advanced Search Technologies: Architect and implement cutting-edge search capabilities using semantic search with Vector DB and LLM integration through Elasticsearch 8 Platinum, setting new standards for information retrieval in healthcare.
  • Innovate and Build: Develop and enhance search applications and features that directly improve patient experiences and outcomes, focusing on relevance, speed, and accuracy.
  • Drive Strategic Decision-Making: Lead strategic decisions that set the future direction for our search capabilities, aligning technical implementation with business objectives and stakeholder needs.
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with product, design, content, and data science teams to brainstorm ideas, prototype solutions, and refine search features.
  • Champion Best Practices: Propose emerging search technologies and guide the team in balancing maintainability, performance, and functionality in search implementations.
  • Lead and Mentor: Share your knowledge and passion with peers, helping them grow and adopt efficient, scalable search engineering practices.
 
Required Experience:
  • Extensive experience with Elasticsearch (Platinum/Enterprise tier features preferred)
  • Vector database implementation for semantic search
  • LLM integration with search systems
  • Search relevancy tuning and optimization
  • SQL and database query optimization
  • Experience in leading the overall search strategy at an organization
  • RESTful web services
  • Git and collaborative development workflows
  • Unit testing
  • Messaging & queuing systems
 
Nice to have:
  • SOLR experience
  • C# and .NET Framework/.NET Core
  • Experience as a Software Engineer in the healthcare industry
  • Experience with HIPAA compliance and handling ePHI data
  • Cloud technologies (AWS/Azure)
  • Knowledge of various architectural approaches, such as microservices

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in Computer-related subject area or related business field and eight (8) or more years' experience in information technology and solution delivery, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in similar fields, is required, with experience working with a SaaS-based solution delivery organization (preferred).
