Zoox is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to lead the development of its metrics platform, vital for validating autonomy and operational systems. The role involves defining and guiding the architectural evolution to enhance the metrics development and maintenance experience across the organization. This position requires close collaboration with various teams to support and expand their work on crucial metrics related to autonomy safety, capability, comfort, and fleet operational efficiency. Responsibilities include designing and implementing scalable systems for metrics, developing technical roadmaps, optimizing systems for performance, ensuring project delivery, and mentoring engineers.
Must have:
  • 5 years of technical leadership experience
  • 8+ years building large-scale infrastructure
  • 5 years of design and architecture experience
  • Experience with workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Ray)
  • Experience with container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes)
  • Experience with networking, storage, and database technologies
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • Strong programming skills (Java/Kotlin, Python, C/C++)
Good to have:
  • 3 years experience in complex, matrixed organizations
  • Expertise in workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Ray)
  • Expertise in container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes)

Job Details

Zoox is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to spearhead the development of its metrics platform, which is crucial for developing and validating the autonomy and operational systems of our robotaxi service. The Senior Staff Engineer will be responsible for defining and guiding the architectural evolution aimed at unifying and optimizing the experience of developing and maintaining metrics throughout the organization. This role involves close collaboration with numerous teams across the company to facilitate and expand their work on essential metrics, encompassing autonomy safety, capability, comfort, fleet operational efficiency, and more. 


In this role, you will:
  • Design and implement highly scalable and reliable systems to enable accurate and efficient metrics development and maintenance.
  • Develop a technical strategy and roadmap with clear goals, outcomes, and timelines to guide technical investments across all teams contributing to the metrics platform.
  • Lead efforts to optimize systems for performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Ensure project execution and delivery.
  • Influence and coach a team of engineers, promoting best practices.


Qualifications:
  • 5 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • 8+ years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems, or networks.
  • 5 years of experience with design and architecture, and testing/launching software products.
  • Experience with workflow orchestration tools such as Ray.
  • Experience with container orchestration technologies like Kubernetes.
  • Experience with networking, storage, and database technologies.
  • Proven experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Java/Kotlin, Python, or C/C++.


Bonus Qualifications:
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional or cross-business projects.
  • Expertise in workflow orchestration tools such as Ray.
  • Expertise in container orchestration technologies like Kubernetes.
  • Expertise in networking, storage, and database technologies.
  • Experience in the autonomous vehicle industry.
  • Experience with data engineering.


$241,000 - $336,000 a year
Base Salary Range


There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. The listed range applies only to the base salary. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
