Job Description

As a SHEQ Engineer, you will support teams in tender, execution, and completion phases of charters and projects, both from the office and on-site. This role involves active participation in mobilizations and kick-offs, with an expectation of 4-6 weeks of annual travel. You will embed and promote SHEQ policies and NINA values within the Marine Services Business Unit, engaging with diverse colleagues globally to ensure safety, quality, and sustainability are prioritized in all operations.
Must have:
  • Provide SHEQ support to operations, including timely preparation of project documentation and guidance on high-risk activities.
  • Assist chartering teams to monitor and review charter SHE risks, compile and facilitate risk assessment activities.
  • Provide SHEQ knowledge, documentation, and deliverables like bridging documents.
  • Support SHEQ department by carrying out SHEQ inspections, verifications, audits, and delivering SHEQ related training.
  • Liaise with vessel, project personnel, and suppliers to investigate incidents and monitor corrective actions.
  • Perform monthly SHEQ performance analysis and reporting in line with Business Unit/division and client requirements.
  • Higher Professional Education (Bachelor) or University (Master) Level.
  • SHEQ education on bachelor level (e.g. NEBOSH, Quality Management, Auditing).
  • At least 10 years of experience in supporting (project) organizations related to SHE and/or Q, preferably in maritime/oil & gas environment.
  • Knowledge of and experience with the International Safety Management (ISM) Code within a SHEQ framework.
  • Problem-solving skills to analyze complex challenges and implement effective solutions.
  • Planning and organizing skills to structure and manage activities, people, and resources efficiently.
  • Building relationships skills to foster strong connections with colleagues, stakeholders, and partners.

Job Description

As a SHEQ Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting our teams throughout the tender, execution, and completion phases of charters and projects from the office. You will also be actively involved on-site, providing support during mobilizations and kick-offs. Travel is an essential part of this role, with an expectation of around 4–6 weeks per year, typically in intervals of 2–5 days.

The Marine Services Business Unit is dynamic and truly international. With a fleet of more than 35 vessels – ranging from construction support vessels and anchor-handling tugs to long-distance towage tugs – we deliver a wide variety of offshore energy projects across the globe. You’ll be working in a fast-paced environment alongside colleagues from diverse professional, cultural, and national backgrounds. The variety of projects and people ensures that no two days are ever the same.

As a SHEQ Engineer, you will play a vital role in embedding and promoting awareness of our SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality) policies and NINA values throughout the Marine Services Business Unit. This means engaging with colleagues from diverse backgrounds, both in the office and at project locations worldwide, to ensure that safety, quality, and sustainability remain top of mind in everything we do.

Your responsibilities as SHEQ Engineer are:

  • Provide SHEQ support as required by the operations team; this shall include timely preparation of project documentation for charters and provision of guidance on specific high risk activities.
  • Assist chartering teams to monitor and review charter SHE risks throughout the life of charter. Compile and facilitate / chair risk assessment activities
  • Providing SHEQ knowledge, documentation and deliverables like bridging documents.
  • Support SHEQ department; this shall include carrying out SHEQ inspections, verifications and audits, the delivery of SHEQ related training / familiarization to the company and implementation of SHEQ Plan improvement activities.
  • Liaise with the vessel, project personnel and where applicable suppliers to investigate incidents and monitor corrective actions, ensuring that they are appropriately addressed and closed out.
  • Monthly SHEQ performance analysis and reporting in line with the Business Unit / division and client requirements.

Your qualities and experience

You can move ahead as SHEQ Engineer if you have:

  • A Higher Professional Education (Bachelor) or University (Master) Level;
  • SHEQ education on bachelor level (e.g. NEBOSH, Quality Management, Auditing);
  • At least 10 years of experience in supporting of (project) organizations related to SHE and / or Q, preferable in maritime / oil & gas environment;
  • Knowledge of and experience with the International Safety Management (ISM) Code within a SHEQ framework.

  • Your team: You are part of our Business Unit team. The team is characterized by their informal yet professional way of working together, flexibility, adaptability and mentality. The team exists of 8 other SHEQ engineers focusing on chartering, projects or offshore and 1 QA (Quality Assurance) engineer. You will report to the Marine Services SHEQ Manager.
  • Where you will work: You will work from the headquarters in Papendrecht, with some travel to projects.
  • Full/part- time job: The function of SHEQ engineer is a fulltime position (40 hours a week). This role has on call commitments during the weekend.
