Job Description

This role involves lab characterization and validation of analog and mixed-signal embedded circuits to launch premiere mobile SoCs. The Silicon Validation Engineer will work on high-speed SerDes blocks, applying hands-on expertise with various architectures like NRZ and PAM, and associated protocols. Responsibilities include debugging critical SerDes components, using high-speed test equipment, and analyzing signal integrity. This dynamic role offers the opportunity to contribute to upcoming Apple products.

Must Have:
  • Lead efforts to bring up, validate, and characterize high-speed SerDes blocks.
  • Apply hands-on expertise with various high-speed SerDes architectures, including NRZ and PAM, and their associated protocols.
  • Analyze and debug critical SerDes components such as CTLE, DFE, FFE, CDR, and PLLs, and optimize their performance through thorough characterization.
  • Use high-speed test and measurement equipment, including oscilloscopes and BERTs, to evaluate SerDes performance.
  • Implement and assess SerDes adaptation techniques to improve signal integrity and link reliability.
  • Conduct detailed signal integrity analysis for high-speed data transmission.
  • Work with high-speed protocols such as USB, PCIe, and DisplayPort, ensuring protocol compliance and robust performance.
  • Investigate data, troubleshoot complex issues, and apply strong problem-solving skills to resolve SerDes-related challenges.
  • Develop and execute test methodologies to determine operating margins of high-speed serial interfaces across PVT (Process, Voltage, Temperature) variations.
  • Collaborate with ATE and Product Engineering teams to support SerDes characterization, validation, and product release.
  • BS and 10+ years related industry experience.

You will be part of a small team responsible for:

  • Leading efforts to bring up, validate, and characterize high-speed SerDes blocks.
  • Possessing hands-on experience with various high-speed SerDes architectures, including NRZ and PAM, as well as associated protocols.
  • Demonstrating in-depth knowledge of crucial SerDes blocks such as CTLE, DFE, FFE, CDR, and PLLs, along with their characterization and debugging processes.
  • Being proficient in using test and measurement equipment like high-speed oscilloscopes and BERTs.
  • Understanding SerDes adaptation techniques.
  • Experience analyzing SerDes signal integrity.
  • Experience with high-speed protocols such as USB, PCIe, DP, etc.
  • Exhibiting strong debugging and problem-solving skills, with data investigation and mining expertise.
  • Developing robust test methodologies to evaluate performance and calculate high-speed serial interfaces (SerDes) operating margins across PVT variations.
  • Supporting ATE and Product Engineering.

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $171,600 and $302,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
