The fellowship is for early-career journalists, lasting six months, and involves producing real work distributed to millions. Fellows learn digital storytelling and become experts in the field. This is a paid position requiring 40 hours per week. The fellowship is hybrid, with New York-based fellows expected to work from the office at least twice a week. The role focuses on distributing new and evergreen videos, crafting compelling headlines and copy, and creating thumbnails using Photoshop. It's important to note that this is not a video editing or production role.

Business Insider is hiring a Social Media Video Fellow to join our Audience team. This fellow will distribute videos across various social networks and ensure our episodes reach our viewers.

The Business Insider Fellowship Program is for early career journalists who want to spend six months learning from a newsroom full of passionate, dedicated journalists. Fellows are assigned to teams and become experts in digital storytelling. They produce real work that is distributed to our audience of millions, and by the end of six months, they are prepared for the next phase of their journalism careers. This paid role requires you to work for 40 hours a week. Fellowships can be hybrid, and we expect New York-based fellows to come into our offices at least twice per week.

The Role & Team:

As a Social Media Video Fellow, you will be responsible for distributing new videos and stories on social channels as they are published, as well as recirculating dozens of evergreen archive videos per day. We work with content from all verticals, including breaking news. The ideal fellow must be an independent worker. Note: this is NOT a video editing or production role. 

This fellow will report directly to the Senior Audience Engagement Producer and is required to work at least two days per week out of Business Insider’s New York City bureau. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Upload and distribute fresh videos daily across all Business Insider channels on social platforms, including but not limited to YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, and TikTok
  • Generate compelling headlines, copy, and descriptions that grab the audience's attention and convey the essence of the video or story
  • Create thumbnails using Photoshop to optimize visual appeal and click-through rates
  • Ensure timely distribution of breaking news videos and stories across relevant social channels

The ideal candidate has:

  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to multitask
  • The ability to communicate clearly about their time management
  • Work experience with one or more social media platforms
  • Experience in packaging stories for publication

Additionally, all of our editorial fellows should have:

  • A passion for digital storytelling and voracious reading habits
  • Familiarity with digital and social media
  • The ability to work quickly and collaboratively with a fast-paced team
  • Proofreading and copyediting skills
  • A love of Business Insider and our mission to serve readers with the information and inspiration they need in a way that’s accurate, fair, fast, and fun 
Salary & Benefits:
  • Fellows are paid $20 per hour (overtime when needed and approved)
