About the Role

We are hiring a Software Engineer I to join Rippling’s German Payroll Engineering Team. This team is responsible for managing the complete Germany payroll process, including onboarding, tax calculation, payroll calculations, social security contributions, filing generation, and handling incoming filing feedback from regulatory authorities. The team collaborates with various cross-organizational functions like HRIS, PTO, Benefits, and Pension, as well as global payroll platform teams. This is a great opportunity for someone early in their career to work on a highly complex and impactful system and grow in a fast-paced, product-focused environment.

What You Will Do

• Contribute to the development of robust and scalable systems supporting Germany payroll.
• Collaborate with senior engineers and product managers to build and ship product features.
• Participate in code reviews, stand-ups, and design discussions to continuously learn and improve.
• Write clean, maintainable code and contribute to improving our tech stack and processes.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of professional experience in a fast-paced engineering environment.
• Experience building large-scale platforms for web applications.
• Expertise in Python and Django is a must-have.
• Familiarity with MongoDB or similar NoSQL databases.
• Strong grasp of CS fundamentals — data structures, algorithms, and system design basics.
• Comfortable debugging and troubleshooting independently.
• Bonus: Exposure to frontend development (JavaScript) is a plus.

The German payroll system is highly complex and requires regular audits and quality checks from the German regulatory authority (ITSG). Our team ensures compliance with local labor laws while integrating with key HR functions like PTO, Benefits, and HRIS.
