This role is for a Software Engineer I on Rippling’s German Payroll Engineering Team, focusing on managing the complete Germany payroll process, including tax and payroll calculations, social security, and filing generation. The team ensures compliance with local labor laws and integrates with HR functions. This is an opportunity to work on a highly complex, impactful system in a fast-paced, product-focused environment, contributing to mission-critical systems that power payroll in Germany.
Must have:
  • Contribute to the development of robust and scalable systems supporting Germany payroll.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and product managers to build and ship product features.
  • Participate in code reviews, stand-ups, and design discussions.
  • Write clean, maintainable code and contribute to improving our tech stack and processes.
  • 1–2 years of professional experience in a fast-paced engineering environment.
  • Experience building large-scale platforms for web applications.
  • Expertise in Python and Django.
  • Familiarity with MongoDB or similar NoSQL databases.
  • Strong grasp of CS fundamentals — data structures, algorithms, and system design basics.
  • Comfortable debugging and troubleshooting independently.
Good to have:
  • Exposure to frontend development (JavaScript)

About the Role

We are hiring a Software Engineer I to join Rippling’s German Payroll Engineering Team. This team is responsible for managing the complete Germany payroll process, including onboarding, tax calculation, payroll calculations, social security contributions, filing generation, and handling incoming filing feedback from regulatory authorities. The team collaborates with various cross-organizational functions like HRIS, PTO, Benefits, and Pension, as well as global payroll platform teams. This is a great opportunity for someone early in their career to work on a highly complex and impactful system and grow in a fast-paced, product-focused environment.
