Job Description

As a Software Engineer Tech Lead, Open Source Security at Google, you'll make open source software safer for Google and the industry. You'll write and test code, lead design reviews, review code from peers, contribute to documentation, and debug system issues. The role involves working on projects critical to Google's needs, with opportunities to switch teams. You'll collaborate internally and externally to improve open source security processes, building the technical foundation for Google's products and impacting critical technical decisions across the company. This involves addressing security concerns in open-source software and ensuring best practices are followed.

Must have:

5+ years software development experience
Experience with Go, Python, C/C++, Java, Rust
Data structures/algorithms expertise
Testing, maintaining, launching software
Software design and architecture experience
Code review and feedback
Debugging and issue resolution

Good to have:

Master's/PhD in CS
Technical leadership experience
Experience with accessible technologies
Open-source software development
Cloud computing, enterprise computing experience
Security engineering knowledge
Experience with authentication and security protocols

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (Go, Python, C/C++, Java, Rust, etc.), and with data structures/algorithms.
3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.

Preferred qualifications:

Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
1 year of experience in a technical leadership role.
Experience developing accessible technologies and with open-source software development.
Experience with cloud computing infrastructure technologies, enterprise computing, software, applications, computing hardware or platforms.
Experience in, and technical knowledge of, security engineering, computer and network security, authentication and security protocols, and applied cryptography.

Responsibilities

Write and test product or system development code.
Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies.
Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
