Autodesk’s AEC Construction division is seeking an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead the Access Control team. This role involves overseeing permission management and authorization within Autodesk Construction Cloud, focusing on high-traffic Node.js/Postgres services.   • Collaborate with Product Managers and stakeholders to define project scope and manage development tasks.
  • Develop and execute long-term strategies for the Access Control team.
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering practices.
  • Build trust and work closely with other engineering teams, DevOps, and QA.
  • Advocate for end-users by ensuring a secure and intuitive user experience.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 7-10 years of professional software development experience, with a focus on backend development.
  • Strong proficiency in Node.js and PostgreSQL.
  • 3-5 years of engineering management experience.
  • Understanding of permission management and authorization systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Good to have:
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Familiarity with microservices architecture and containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Previous experience in the construction technology industry.
  • Service Oriented Architecture (SOA).
  • API Design.

Position Overview

Autodesk’s AEC Construction division is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Software Engineering Manager to lead our Access Control team. This team is responsible for the critical tasks of permission management and authorization within Autodesk Construction Cloud, our suite of construction software products. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, a solid technical background, and the ability to manage a team of highly skilled engineers working on high-traffic Node.js/Postgres services.

Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of talented software engineers, providing guidance, performance evaluation, career development, and professional growth opportunities
  • Technical Oversight: Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of high-traffic Node.js and PostgreSQL services related to permission management and authorization. Ensure high performance, reliability, scalability, and security
  • Project Management: Collaborate with Product Managers and other stakeholders to define project scope, objectives, and deliverables. Prioritize and manage development tasks to meet project timelines
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and execute long-term strategies for the Access Control team, ensuring alignment with the overall goals of the AEC Construction division
  • Innovation and Improvement: Drive continuous improvement in engineering practices, including code quality, testing, deployment, and monitoring
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Build trust and work closely with other engineering teams, DevOps, and QA to ensure seamless integration and delivery of software products
  • Customer Focus: Advocate for the end-users by ensuring that the team’s output results in a secure and intuitive user experience

Minimum Qualifications

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Technical Experience: At least 7-10 years of professional software development experience, with a focus on backend development
  • Strong proficiency in Node.js and PostgreSQL
  • Leadership Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of engineering management experience, leading teams of similar size and complexity
  • Domain Knowledge: Understanding of permission management and authorization systems, especially within the context of large-scale applications
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
  • Familiarity with microservices architecture and containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.

Salary transparency

Salary is one part of Autodesk’s competitive compensation package. For Canada-BC based roles, we expect a starting base salary between $136,000 and $187,000. Offers are based on the candidate’s experience and geographic location, and may exceed this range. In addition to base salaries, our compensation package may include annual cash bonuses, commissions for sales roles, stock grants, and a comprehensive benefits package.
