dbt Labs is seeking a Solutions Architect for their Enterprise team in Toronto, Canada. The Solutions Architect will act as the technical counterpart to the sales team, driving deals and providing value to prospects. This role involves leading the evaluation, implementation, and adoption of dbt for enterprise and commercial clients. Responsibilities include communicating the technical value of dbt Labs products, guiding customers through proof-of-concept implementations and trials, deploying dbt Cloud in private clouds, owning the customer lifecycle from pre-sale to expansion, collaborating with product on the enterprise roadmap, and building relationships with partners. The ideal candidate should have a strong foundation in pre-sales or technical sales, with at least 4 years of experience in sales engineering, solutions architecture, or consulting in data operations, analytics, or BI. A solid technical background with experience in SQL, ETL, and data modeling, along with an understanding of modern data warehousing architectures, is essential. Excellent communication skills for discussing complex topics with both technical and non-technical audiences are also required. Prior experience with dbt, analytics, ETL, BI, or open-sourced software, as well as experience with data modeling methods and data warehousing tooling, will make a candidate stand out.
Must have:
  • 4+ years in sales engineering, solutions architecture, or consulting

About the Role

As a Solutions Architect (SA) at dbt Labs, you’ll serve as the technical counterpart to our Sales team, playing a critical role in advancing deals and driving value for our prospects. This role supports the Toronto region, with a particular focus on Canadian-based customers—requiring some in-person engagement both in-office and onsite with customers. As a Solutions Architect, you will lead the evaluation, implementation, and adoption of dbt for our largest enterprise and commercial customers.

What You’ll Do

  • Work hand-in-hand with sales to communicate the technical value of the dbt Labs suite of products
  • Guide customers through proof-of-concept implementations and facilitate trials of dbt Cloud
  • Work with engineering to deploy dbt Cloud in private clouds for enterprise clients
  • Own the full customer lifecycle from pre-sale evaluation to product adoption and expansion
  • Work with product to build and maintain the dbt Cloud enterprise roadmap
  • Build close relationships with our Partners (including companies like Snowflake, AWS, and Databricks) and enable them to adopt and implement dbt for their clients
  • Be an active member of the dbt community

What You’ll Need

  • 4+ years of sales engineering, solutions architecture, or consulting in data operations, analytics, or BI
  • A strong foundation in pre-sales or technical sales, with the ability to quickly learn new technologies—prior experience with dbt is not required.
  • A solid technical background, with experience in SQL, ETL, and data modeling
  • A firm understanding of and ability to discuss modern data warehousing architectures
  • Ability to gather and translate technical and business requirements into concrete solutions
  • Excellent verbal, written, and in-person communication skills to discuss complex topics with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to operate in an ambiguous and fast-paced work environment
  • A passion for being an inclusive teammate and involved member of the community

What Will Make You Stand Out

  • Prior experience working at an analytics, ETL, BI, and/or open-sourced software
  • Knowledge of or prior experience with dbt
  • Experience with Data Modeling methods such as dimensional, data vault, Kimball, 3NF
  • Experience with Data warehousing tooling (Snowflake, Databricks, etc.)
  • Experience with leading the technical aspects of the sales cycle, including discovery, solution demos, value articulation, scoping proof-of-value (POV) engagements, executive-level POCs, and final readouts

The typical starting salary range for this role is:

OTE Range

$205,000 - $255,000 CAD
