Job Description

LightSpeed Japan Studio is seeking a Sound Programmer to join their team in Tokyo or Osaka. The studio specializes in crafting original AAA action game titles for global audiences, led by industry veteran Hideaki Itsuno. The role involves designing and implementing in-game sound systems, integrating and customizing audio middleware (Wwise/ADX2) into UE5, and collaborating with sound designers on tool development. Candidates should have professional experience as a sound or game programmer, strong C++/C# skills, and experience with audio middleware and UE5.
Must have:
  • Design and implement in-game sound systems (real-time audio, playback control, environmental sound, 3D sound).
  • Integrate and customize audio middleware (Wwise/ADX2) into UE5.
  • Develop and maintain audio editors and debugging tools for sound designers.
  • Optimize sound data for hardware resources and performance.
  • Design and implement audio event control logic tied to gameplay.
  • Research and develop procedural audio engines for UE5.
  • Design and implement peripheral vibration.
  • Professional experience as a sound programmer or game programmer.
  • Programming skills in C++ and/or C#.
  • Experience developing with audio middleware (Wwise, ADX2, etc.).
  • Experience collaborating with sound designers.
  • Development experience on console or PC titles at AA scale or above.
  • Working knowledge of UE5 implementation.
Good to have:
  • Experience in audio development for multiple platforms (consoles, PC, mobile)
  • Expertise in real-time audio processing, DSP, and audio plugin development
  • Technical understanding of DAWs and audio tools, including script creation
  • Knowledge of waveform analysis

What the Role Entails

Job Description

  • In-game sound system development Design and implement audio systems that enhance the game experience—such as real-time audio systems, sound playback control, environmental sound processing, and 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos–compatible 3D sound—based on director instructions and hardware requirements.
  • Middleware (Wwise / ADX2, etc.) integration into UE5 with custom extensions Utilize audio middleware to handle UE5 integration, develop extended features, and perform custom implementations.
  • Collaboration with sound designers and tool development Develop and maintain audio editors and debugging tools to help sound designers efficiently implement and fine-tune audio assets.
  • Sound data optimization Optimize memory usage, design streaming and audio data processing, and improve performance with hardware resource constraints in mind.
  • Audio event control implementation Design and implement control logic for sound events tied to gameplay, including character sounds, UI audio, environmental sounds, and other diverse audio categories.
  • Procedural audio research and development In collaboration with the company’s R&D division, design and implement procedural audio engines for UE5, leveraging AI and other advanced techniques.
  • Peripheral vibration design and implementation

Who We Look For

Qualifications

  • Professional experience as a sound programmer or game programmer
  • Programming skills in C++ and/or C#
  • Experience developing with audio middleware (Wwise, ADX2, etc.)
  • Experience collaborating with sound designers, or equivalent understanding
  • Development experience on console or PC titles at AA scale or above
  • Working knowledge of UE5 implementation Preferred Skills
  • Experience in audio development for multiple platforms (consoles, PC, mobile)
  • Expertise in real-time audio processing, DSP, and audio plugin development
  • Technical understanding of DAWs and audio tools, including script creation
  • Knowledge of waveform analysis

Salary

Annual salary: Negotiable (with raises/bonuses)

*Consideration will be given to experience, skills, etc., and preferential treatment will be given according to our company's regulations.

*Includes 35 hours of fixed overtime pay per month. Overtime exceeding this will be paid separately.

Working Hours and Holidays

Working hours 09:30 ~ 18:30 Break time 60 minutes

Discretionary labor system may apply depending on position

Complete two-day weekend system (Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays)

Paid leave: For the first year of employment, prorated according to the month of joining. Up to 22 days based on years of service.

New Year's holidays (December 30th ~ January 3rd)

Sick leave (paid): 12 days/year (granted separately from paid leave)
