Job Description

Join eBay's Hardware Platform Infrastructure team to build and maintain large-scale on-prem hardware platforms. This role involves setting up, testing, and qualifying server and network hardware, leading system test qualifications, and automating hardware tests. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, perform hands-on lab work, debug issues, and develop software test scripts for hardware validation. A strong understanding of computer architecture and experience with various hardware technologies are essential.
Must have:
  • Setup, Test and Qualify server, network hardware
  • Lead system test qualification
  • Define and automate hardware tests from component to rack levels
  • Collaborate with multi-functional hardware, software and network teams
  • Organize & perform hands-on work in engineering labs to set up equipment and perform tests
  • Own the debug and root causes of issues encountered in large scale platform deployment
  • Write test plans, technical specifications, and manufacturing test processes
  • Design, develop and validate integrated hyperscale rack products
  • Develop software test scripts, tools, benchmarks, and automation
  • Solid understanding of computer architecture and workload bottlenecks
  • Prior hands-on work in an engineering lab with test validation experience
  • Expert user level exposure to BIOS, BMC, NIC, server, networking and Linux
  • Knowledge of Linux OS, BMC, software setup (drivers, CUDA, NOS)
  • Familiarity with scripting in Bash, Python, or similar scripting languages

What you will accomplish

  • Setup, Test and Qualify server, network hardware
  • Lead system test qualification. Perform functional and reliability tests on compute, AI accelerator, storage servers, and network switches.
  • Define and automate hardware tests from component to rack levels.
  • Collaborating with various multi-functional hardware, software and network teams to develop hardware validation tools (system network monitoring, data path traffics, server activities, …) and automation processes in defined network topologies
  • Organize & perform hands-on work in engineering labs to set up equipment and perform tests.
  • Own the debug and root causes of issues encountered in large scale platform deployment and coordinate with vendors to drive successful resolution, including but not limiting to analysis of crash dumps, dmesg, mce & SEL logs
  • Write test plans, technical specifications, and manufacturing test processes.
  • Design, develop and validate integrated hyperscale rack products with multiple ODM vendors, maximizing innovative technologies that include: AI accelerators from Nvidia, AMD, Intel, ASIC/FPGAs, DDR5, PCIe5, 100G/400G TOR switches, NVMe Flash storage, RDMA NICs.
  • Develop software test scripts, tools, benchmarks, and automation to validate hardware reliability, performance, and interoperability of servers and switches.

What you will bring

  • 8+ years work experience, with BS/BA in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering, or relevant technical field or equivalent professional experience a must, M.S. degree a plus.
  • A solid understanding of computer architecture and workload bottle necks: CPU, Memory, Storage, Network, FPGA accelerators, RDMA, NVMe-oF, Persistent memory with a proven record in hardware development and sustaining hardware OEM, ODM or JDM products at large scale.
  • Prior hands-on work in an engineering lab with test validation experience across multiple disciplines: network, server, power, thermal, mechanical shock & vibration with a demonstrated ability to analyze hardware and firmware designs.
  • Must have exposure to BIOS, BMC, NIC, server, networking and Linux at the level of an expert user in most of these areas.
  • Knowledge of Linux OS, BMC, software setup: drivers, CUDA, NOS (Network OS, e.g. SONiC).
  • Familiarity with scripting in Bash, Python, or similar scripting languages.
  • Leveraging AI tools for scripting, coding, analyzing and documenting technical tasks.
  • Expect to work 5 days a week in a hardware engineering lab environment.

The base pay range for this position is expected in the range below:

$190,400 - $254,200

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
