Sr. Software Engineer (Android)

Job Summary:This job delivers complete solutions spanning all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC). It involves advising management on project-level issues, guiding junior engineers, operating with little supervision, and applying knowledge of technical best practices.Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:

• Delivers complete solutions spanning all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) (design, implementation, testing, delivery and operations), based on definitions from more senior roles.
• Advises immediate management on project-level issues
• Guides junior engineers
• Operates with little day-to-day supervision, making technical decisions based on knowledge of internal conventions and industry best practices
• Applies knowledge of technical best practices in making decisions

Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience and a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

• Job Responsibilities
• Develop and maintain high-performing, reusable Java and Kotlin/Jetpack Compose code
• Stay current with the newest mobile technologies; research new technologies and make recommendations on implementations
• Mentor juniors in the team and help them sharpen their technical finesse
• Ability to reduce tech debt and have a plan to remove them from the system
• Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision in a team to define, design, implement, test, release rollout, and support software applications for PayPal
• Work with product owners to crystallize the technical needs during grooming and planning meetings
• Work with engineering managers, engineers, and QA to develop innovative solutions that meet market needs with respect to functionality, performance, reliability, realistic implementation schedules and adherence to development goals and principles
• Define and develop processes, tools, and methodologies to achieve excellence in software development, testing, and deployment
• Follow coding standards and guidelines with attention to performance, scalability, and availability

Job Requirements

• At least four years of Android development experience
• Highly competent hands-on expertise in the following:
• Solid Java and Kotlin programming skills
• Solid understanding of Android UI design principles, patterns, and best practices
• Experience building Android applications connected to RESTful APIs
• Practical knowledge of Android architecture
• Solid understanding of algorithms with good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team
• Experience with a version control system (GIT, SVN, CVS, etc.)
• Highly analytical, innovative, and able to think strategically and develop comprehensive detailed specifications
