This Staff Applications Engineer position at Marvell is crucial for supporting customer production ramp-up for HSC retimer products, specifically high-speed Ethernet PHYs. The role involves resolving application issues from design to production, working directly with customers, conducting lab testing, and collaborating with the R&D team for product improvement. Key responsibilities include understanding customer needs, driving design wins, reviewing schematics, hands-on debugging, providing technical training, defining next-gen products, and developing technical documentation. The ideal candidate will have experience in high-speed SerDes/Ethernet PHY products and strong technical and interpersonal skills.
Must have:
  • Understand customer’s target market and prioritize design requirements.
  • Drive sales to win key designs with Marvell Ethernet PHYs.
  • Review customer schematics and layout.
  • Perform hands-on bring-up and debug of customer boards.
  • Provide remote or on-site troubleshooting for technical issues.
  • Support customer lab/field trials and provide insightful advice.
  • Support engineering team in device and system level testing.
  • Provide technical training on Marvell PHY products.
  • Work cross-functionally to define next-generation products.
  • Develop technical collateral including application notes and white papers.
  • Assist sales with technical presentations and statements of work.
  • Create relationships with key decision makers.
  • Provide customer feedback for functionality roadmap planning.
  • Bachelor's degree in CS/EE or related with 3-5 years experience.
  • Master's/PhD in CS/EE or related with 2-3 years experience.
  • 2-3 years as System/Applications Engineer in High-Speed SerDes/Ethernet PHY.
  • Experience with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, etc.).
  • Familiarity with high-speed PCB layout, signal integrity, assembly, manufacturing.
  • Experience with C/C++, Python/TCL.
  • Knowledge of mixed signal IC, PHY, Optical Transceivers, SerDes, high-speed protocols.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Customer-oriented, self-driven, and collaborative.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to travel to customer sites.

Your Team, Your Impact

This is a key position that impacts customer production ramp up for the HSC retimer product line. The high speed Ethernet PHY products connect different switches, routers, servers together in an Enterprise or Data Center environment.

This position is specifically for resolving applications issues while supporting customer from design to production.

This role involves working directly with customers, lab testing to duplicate problems and working with the internal R&D team to continuously improve our product line.

What You Can Expect

  • Understand customer’s target market, analyze, and prioritize customer design requirements, and provide feedback to the engineering team.
  • Drive and assist the sales team to win key designs with Marvell Ethernet PHYs.
  • Review customer schematics and layout. Perform hands-on bring-up and debug of customer boards. Closely follow and check customer technical issues, provide remote or on-site troubleshooting. Support customer lab/field trial, develop understanding of customer application environment and provide insightful advice on customer products.
  • Support engineering team in the collective effort of device and system level testing.
  • Provide technical training to Marvell Sales Engineers, Distributor Field Applications Engineers, and key customers on Marvell PHY products.
  • Work cross functionally with silicon development, system validation, and marketing team to define next generation of products and solutions.
  • Develop technical collateral including application notes, user guide/manual, release notes, white papers, and other technical documents.
  • Assist sales team through preparation and delivery of technical presentations and statements of work by matching specific client business requirements with effective technical solutions.
  • Create relationships with key decision makers and serve as external technical spokesperson.
  • Provide customer feedback to executive and development teams for integration in functionality roadmap planning

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related fields and 3-5 years of related professional experience.
  • Master’s degree and/or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related fields with 2-3 years of experience.
  • 2-3 years of experience as System/Applications Engineer in High-Speed SerDes/Ethernet PHY products.
  • Experience using lab equipment including high speed oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic/protocol analyzers, and traffic generators.
  • Familiarity with high-speed PCB layout, signal integrity, board assembly, and manufacturing.
  • Experience with software programming language development: C/C++, Python/TCL, etc..
  • Knowledge of complex mixed signal IC, PHY, Optical Transceivers, SerDes, high-speed interface protocols/signaling and standards
  • Strong influence and excellent interpersonal skills, coupled with ability to analyze, summarize, and communicate efficiently (written and verbal) in a multicultural environment.
  • Must be professional, detailed, customer-oriented, self-driven and able to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to meet customer needs.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to travel to customer sites as needed.

Expected Base Pay Range (USD)

The successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location and market conditions. The expected base pay range for this role may be modified based on market conditions.
