Staff Fullstack Engineer - Grapevine (AI)

Gather is building an all-in-one work communication tool, a Zoom and Slack replacement for an AI-native world, with over 100,000 users. Grapevine is Gather’s new product, providing rich context for AI agents across work tools like Slack, Notion, and GitHub. As a Staff Fullstack Engineer on Grapevine, you will build core functionality for the ingestion stack, including new sources and privacy/governance, and core product surfaces like UI, MCP, and Slack interfaces. The role requires a motivated systems thinker capable of quickly prototyping and building both frontend and backend components with a high bar for data security and scalability.

Must Have

• Design and implement integrations to new external platforms
• Build fundamental systems like the Privacy/Governance engine
• Craft delightful product experiences atop a well-informed knowledge system
• Build prototypes demonstrating the potential of company-specific AI
• Mentor and inspire other engineers to think creatively about AI applications
• Strong backend development skills with experience going from problem to deployment
• Proficiency in modern web technologies (Vite, TypeScript, Python) and backend development
• Proficiency with AI native coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, etc.)
• Experience building AI systems (MCPs, Agents, misc LLM provider APIs, etc.)
• Experience building internal tools for cross-functional organizations
• Strong debugging and investigation skills
• Intrinsic motivation and the drive to own and solve difficult problems without guidance
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with technical leadership abilities

Role overview:

As a Staff Fullstack Engineer on Grapevine, you'll be working on building out core functionality across our ingestion stack (including new sources and our privacy/governance engine) and core product surfaces (including our UI, MCP, and Slack interfaces). We have an ambitious roadmap of features as well as a high bar for data security and scalability. You should be an intrinsically motivated systems thinker who can quickly move from concept to working prototype, building both frontend and backend components.

Where you will make an impact:

• Design and implement integrations to new external platforms, expanding the scope of the knowledge Grapevine comprehends
• Build fundamental systems like our Privacy/Governance engine, to ensure no context is inadvertently leaked between teams or employees
• Craft delightful product experiences atop the superpower of a well-informed knowledge system
• Build prototypes that demonstrate the potential of company-specific AI, from internal chatbots to workflow automation tools
• Mentor and inspire other engineers to think creatively about AI applications

What you bring:

• Strong backend development skills with experience going from problem to deployment

US Salary Range

At Gather, compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $188,700 - $238,000 annually and we encourage candidates outside of this salary range to apply.

Base pay is one part of the total package provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role will be eligible for a stock reward reflective of an early-stage startup.
