Qualcomm is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for their Camera team. This role involves working on the latest imaging technology for smartphones, augmented/virtual reality devices, laptops, automotive platforms, and IoT applications. Responsibilities include system and software architecture, developing new imaging features, working with ecosystems like Android and Linux, camera framework development, HAL, device drivers, algorithm design, performance and power optimization, and unit testing. The engineer will also collaborate with partners and OEMs, and advance image analysis, post-processing, camera sensors, motion compensation, AI, and ML techniques. The position requires independent work with minimal supervision and may involve guiding other team members, with decision-making that can impact the work group.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in CS, EE, or related field and 4+ years of experience OR Master's degree and 3+ years of experience OR PhD and 2+ years of experience.
  • Programming (C, C++, Python), computer architecture, or embedded systems knowledge.
  • Relevant camera software experience.
Good to have:
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or related field.
  • Technical leadership experience with or without direct reports.

About the Role:

In the camera software team, you will have the opportunity to work on system and software architecture, develop new imaging features and work with different ecosystems such as Android, Linux, MS Windows etc. This can include working on the camera framework, HAL, device drivers, algorithm design and development, optimizing software for performance and power, development of unit tests and working with our partners and OEMs. The role also presents opportunities to advance your career with our cutting-edge and constantly evolving image analysis and post-processing techniques, camera sensors, motion compensation and other advanced features that are based on the latest imaging processors, AI and ML techniques. Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or related field and 4+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.
OR
Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or related field and 3+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.
OR
PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or related field and 2+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

•    Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or related field.
•    4+ years programming (e.g., C, C++, Python), computer architecture, or embedded systems knowledge.

•    2+ years of relevant camera software experience.

•    1+ year in a technical leadership role with or without direct reports.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

•    Leverages advanced knowledge and experience of Camera to design, develop, debug, implement, and verify camera software (e.g., Camera Image Signal Processor, 3A, Image Quality, Tuning Tools, etc.), algorithms, and features.

•    Designs or architects IQ modules, algorithms, and feature decompositions to drive complex requirements and specifications for both hardware and software.

•    Ensures advanced image quality, software conformance tests, and performance and power metrics are met to deliver camera software to customers.

•    Collaborates with customers and cross-functional teams to design, development, and optimize camera systems, hardware, and/or software. 

•    Writes detailed technical documentation and feature descriptions for complex Camera SW projects to guide users and/or customers to use or implement software.

Level of Responsibility:  
•    Works independently with minimal supervision.
•    Provides supervision/guidance to other team members.

•    Decision-making may affect work beyond immediate work group.
•    Requires verbal and written communication skills to convey information. May require basic negotiation, influence, tact, etc. 
•    Has a moderate amount of influence over key organizational decisions.
•    Tasks require multiple steps which can be performed in various orders; some planning, problem-solving, and prioritization must occur to complete the tasks effectively.

The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted.
