POLITICO is seeking a high-energy, enterprising reporter to cover federal tax policy and how it affects government, businesses and individuals at all levels. This is a high-profile beat that touches the lives of every individual and business in America, at a time when tax laws are undergoing major changes. You’ll track congressional, White House and federal agency actions, including legislation, regulations and enforcement of tax laws, along with international developments that reach U.S. taxpayers. You’ll explore the politics of taxation and how it shapes campaigns, including the upcoming mid-term elections, as well as the role of tax policy both in the larger economy and down to a household level.
The ideal candidate will be a scoop-driven reporter who can dominate a fast-paced daily beat for all platforms of POLITICO while also delivering enterprise stories that break new ground, beat the competition and set the standard for tax reporting in Washington and beyond. We’re looking for someone who will break news on complex trends like taxation of cryptocurrency and the gig economy, putting them in a larger economic context for both a specialized audience of business leaders and a general readership. A spirit of collaboration and the ability to work with reporters and editors at POLITICO covering other aspects of the economy is also crucial.

- Demonstrated ability to juggle daily coverage with longer-term stories while delivering accuracy and clarity
- A minimum of three years of reporting experience, preferably covering executive branch agencies or Congress
