Job Description

We are seeking an Experienced or Senior Technical Animator for an unannounced project. This role involves collaborating with animators, designers, artists, and programmers to create high-quality character animation and develop advanced animation systems. You will build tools to enhance efficiency, act as an evangelist for automation, and improve overall workflow. This central role requires strong problem-solving and communication skills in a highly agile and creative environment.
Must have:
  • Interact closely with animators, designers, artists, and programmers to establish and improve pipelines, tools, and runtime systems in Unreal Engine 5
  • Play a key role in designing and building pipelines for animation and character art
  • Develop character animation systems and build functional rigs for both humanoid characters and all crazy kinds of monsters beyond your wildest imagination
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to colleagues in the field (for more experienced animators)
  • Extensive knowledge of Unreal Engine animation systems (Animation Blueprint, Control Rig, Animation Data Modifiers, AnimNotify, AnimMontage logic etc.)
  • Ability to develop runtime procedural animation systems that solve problems mathematically and systematically
  • Ability to develop runtime procedural animation systems that increase visual quality and tie characters into dynamic runtime context
  • Experience with Python (optionally C++) development of animation tools for DCC’s such as Maya, Motionbuilder, and Blender
  • Great understanding of animation workflows and solid habit of organizing and structuring your own and others work
  • Excellent spoken and written English
  • A problem-solving mindset
Good to have:
  • Knowledge about the Unreal sample projects Advanced Locomotion System (ALS) and/or Lyra
  • Experience with programming more advanced features in Unreal C++
  • Experience with expanding on or altering Unreal Engines source code to fulfill the specific needs of a game project
  • Familiarity with Unreal's Gameplay Ability System (GAS)
  • Previous experience working on online multiplayer games and an understanding of concepts like dedicated servers, clients, replication etc
  • Keyframe animation and motion capture experience
  • Experience with systematic solutions for facial animation

We are Fatshark

We are a critically acclaimed Swedish game development studio with about 190 experienced and skilled employees. We are most well-known for developing the Warhammer: Vermintide franchise, but have also helped develop a number of AAA titles and we launched the highly anticipated game Warhammer 40,000: Darktide.

We have grown quite a bit over the last few years, but we still embrace the same values that we started with. We want to build the best first person co-op games together, in an approachable, fun and passion-driven way.

The role

We are looking for either an Experienced or Senior Technical Animator to join the game team for our exciting unannounced project! You will work closely with our animators, designers, artists, and programmers to create high-quality and performant characters and character animation.

You will be responsible for developing animation systems and building tech that pushes the art and animation of our games forward. You will also be a tools developer that empowers our animators and artists to be more efficient and self-sufficient as game developers.

Our team and work environment is highly agile, collaborative, and creative, giving individual team members a lot of influence along with responsibility. You will have a central role in our production and will act as an evangelist for automation, modularity and scalability. You will tie disciplines together and improve the overall workflow on this project. We are at the beginning of something exciting, and we need you to be an excellent problem-solver with strong communication skills.

What you'll do

  • As a more experienced technical animator, you will provide guidance and mentorship to colleagues in the field

Required qualifications

  • Experience and extensive knowledge of Unreal Engine animation systems (Animation Blueprint, Control Rig, Animation Data Modifiers, AnimNotify, AnimMontage logic etc.)
  • Ability to develop runtime procedural animation systems that solve problems mathematically and systematically, removing the need for animation asset bloating
  • Ability to develop runtime procedural animation systems that increase the visual quality of characters and help tie characters into the dynamic runtime context of the game world and situation
  • Experience with Python (optionally C++) development of animation tools for DCC’s such as Maya, Motionbuilder, and Blender
  • Great understanding of animation workflows and solid habit of organizing and structuring your own and others work
  • Excellent spoken and written English
  • A problem-solving mindset

Bonus qualifications

We have a policy of working 4 days in the office per week, with 1 day optional to work from home. The onboarding is being done fully in the office.
