As a Technical Art Director, you are a technical expert in the art field with a deep understanding of the production pipeline. You make technical decisions for all artistic disciplines, driving visual quality while respecting technical constraints. You will work closely with development teams on an ambitious video game, responsible for asset production pipelines and technical quality. Joining Amazon Games Montréal means contributing to a new, human-scale studio, creating a fresh take on a AAA MOBA, and collaborating with a team of experts who enjoy working together.
Must have:
  • Evaluate game’s vision, design, and technical needs to determine feasibility and mitigation plans
  • Define performance and memory budgets for art assets, ensuring understanding and adherence
  • Lead profiling and optimization of art assets throughout game development
  • Lead design and development of tools and automation scripts for art team
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with stakeholders on technical art direction
  • Oversee art and design pipeline creation, ensuring deadlines, budgets, and quality standards
  • Identify and resolve technical artistic issues, proposing innovative solutions
  • Stay updated on artistic and technological trends in video game industry
Good to have:
  • Experience with Unreal game engine
  • Knowledge of scripting languages and tools
  • Passion for online multiplayer games

As a Technical Art Director, you are a technical expert in the art field. You have a deep understanding of the production pipeline and are able to make technical decisions for all artistic disciplines, driving the visual quality of the game while respecting the technical constraints. You will work closely with the development teams for the production of our ambitious video game. You are responsible for the readiness of asset production pipelines as well as the technical quality of all in-game assets and adherence to performance and memory budgets.

Joining Amazon Games Montréal means taking part in the foundation of a new video game studio that operates at a focused, human scale; participating in the creation of a new intellectual property, a fresh take on the AAA multiplayer online battle arena game (yes, a MOBA); and collaborating with a team of well-rounded experts who have a great time working together.   • Consistently lead the profiling and optimization of art assets throughout the game’s development;
  • Lead the design and development of various tools and automation scripts needed by the art team;
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with all stakeholders, ensuring that the technical art direction is understood and respected at all levels;
  • Oversee the art and design pipeline creation process, ensuring deadlines and budgets are met while maintaining high quality standards;
  • Identify and resolve technical artistic issues that impact creation through development, proposing innovative and pragmatic solutions that enable teammates to do their best work;
  • Stay on top of artistic and technological trends in the video game industry to ensure the team stays at the forefront of innovation

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Basic Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in a technical art direction role in the video game industry;
  • Proficiency with standard software and art authoring tools such as Maya, as well as a thorough understanding of design principles and artistic techniques;
  • Proficiency with graphics profiling tools such as RenderDoc or equivalent;
  • Proven ability to inspire a creative technical team, fostering a collaborative and stimulating work environment;
  • Excellent communication and project management skills, with the ability to present and defend technical artistic concepts convincingly;
  • Degree in art, design, animation, programming, or a related field, or equivalent field experience;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, in French and English; due to the nature of the role which requires interaction with other Amazon entities globally and with Amazon employees and stakeholders in other provinces in Canada, bilingual French and English is required for this position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Unreal game engine is strong plus;
  • Knowledge of scripting languages and tools is a strong plus;
  • Passion for online multiplayer games.
