nDreams is seeking a Technical Artist for a 12-month fixed-term, full-time, remote contract within the UK. This role involves working closely with artists and programmers to deliver visually impressive and technically sound game content. Key responsibilities include creating and optimizing shaders and VFX in Unreal Engine, collaborating across disciplines, defining art workflows, and resolving technical issues. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in shader development, VFX optimization, and Unreal Engine, along with strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Must have:
  • Create and iterate on shaders and master materials in Unreal Engine using node graphs and HLSL.
  • Optimise shaders across platforms to improve performance and memory usage.
  • Support the creation and optimisation of visual effects, particularly using Niagara.
  • Collaborate with engineers and artists to ensure technical accessibility of features.
  • Work with other disciplines to gather feedback and improve implementation.
  • Contribute to defining and maintaining art workflows and pipelines.
  • Document tools and processes clearly, using visual aids where helpful.
  • Assist in improving team efficiency through better tools or processes.
  • Help identify and resolve technical issues during production.
  • Participate in discussions around technical art needs and priorities.
  • Support the studio’s technical art goals and maintain high standards.
  • Break down tasks and dependencies to support collaborative development.

Description

We’re looking for a Technical Artist to join our team and help deliver visually impressive, technically sound game content. You’ll work closely with both artists and programmers to support asset integration, improve workflows, and contribute to the development of intuitive and inspiring games.

The rundown:

  • 12-month fixed term contract
  • Full time (37.5 hours per week)
  • Fully remote within the UK
  • Salary is competitive and dependent on experience

Key responsibilities:

  • Optimise shaders across platforms to improve performance and memory usage.

Requirements

The skills you’ll need:

  • Solid experience in shader development and optimisation
  • Understanding of VFX optimisation workflows
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on efficiency and detail
  • Working knowledge of Unreal Engine
  • Clear and confident communicator

The nice to haves:

  • Experience with VR development
  • Familiarity with Niagara for VFX
  • Interest in improving team workflows and pipeline efficiency
