Job Description

Ubisoft seeks an experienced Technical Artist to bridge the gap between art and development teams. Responsibilities include integrating visual assets, optimizing performance, developing shaders and lighting, collaborating with cross-functional teams, troubleshooting technical challenges, driving innovation, implementing efficient pipelines, conducting art/technical reviews, and reporting to the Technical Director. The ideal candidate possesses a strong technical background in game development, understands art pipelines, and has shipped at least one game. Experience with game engines (Unreal Engine, Unity), art tools (Maya, Blender), shader development, and VFX is crucial. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills are essential. Experience with mobile game development and online multiplayer systems is a plus.

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Technical Artist to join our team.

The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between the art and development teams, ensuring the seamless integration of visual assets while optimizing performance and maintaining high artistic standards.

This role requires a strong technical background in game development combined with a deep understanding of art pipelines and visual systems.

The Technical Artist will report to and work under the management of the Associate Producer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with artists and developers to ensure that visual assets are efficiently integrated into the game while maintaining performance and quality.
  • Develop and optimize shaders, lighting systems, and visual effects to enhance the artistic vision and ensure smooth performance across platforms.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including designers, developers, and producers, to ensure that all visual components meet the project's aesthetic and technical
  • requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges related to asset integration, performance optimization, and memory management.
  • Drive innovation by staying current with industry trends, tools, and best practices in both game development and visual design.
  • Implement tools and processes that improve the efficiency and quality of the asset creation pipeline.
  • Conduct and facilitate art and technical reviews to ensure the highest standards of visual quality and technical performance.
  • Report to and work under the guidance of the Technical Director, ensuring alignment with the project’s artistic and technical goals.

Qualifications

Relevant experience, skills and knowledge

  • Proven experience as a Technical Artist within a game development team, with a deep understanding of art and technical workflows.
  • Experience shipping at least 1 game
  • Strong knowledge of game engines (e.g., Unreal Engine, Unity) and art tools (e.g., Maya, Blender).
  • Expertise in shader development, lighting systems, and VFX.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to address both artistic and technical challenges.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across disciplines.
  • Ability to mentor and support junior artists and developers, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
  • Experience with mobile game development and online multiplayer systems is desirable.

Duration of work: Full-time 
Remote or on-site: Flexible working organization to be discussed with the manager of the role, in accordance with the Ubisoft Work From Home policy - 3 days a week in our Saint-Mandé office. 

This role requires candidates to be based in the Paris area, and to be on-site in our Saint-Mandé office 3 days a week. This role is not eligible for relocation support.
