In this role, you will:

• Exercise your legal acumen to strategize how to drive to optimal results in commercial technology in-bound and sales structures, technology litigation, and government deals. Subject matter will relate to everything that makes and does frontier AI, from building datacenters to selling AI services to commercial and government customers. Litigation subject matter may span the gamut: cutting edge AI intellectual property issues, technology agreement disputes, environmental issues, employment claims, and more.
• Flex your intellectual property muscle to assess best strategies to protect a rocket-ship-speed business.
• Collaborate closely with technical, product, sales, finance, and legal team members to establish legal strategies that align with business objectives.
• Oversee outside counsel and legal service providers, ensuring high-quality and cost-effective services.
• Design legal structures and operations to minimize friction and enhance efficiency within the legal department.
• Be a swiss army knife: pitch in with precision for anything needed in the legal department, even if it is unfamiliar.
• This is an in-person role based in Palo Alto, CA that requires up to 25% travel.

Minimum qualifications:

• 10+ years of legal experience–ideally through a combination of experience at innovative technology companies and top-tier law firms (startup experience a plus).
• Prior in-house counsel experience; commercial, product, IP, regulatory, and/or government experience highly desirable.
• Be hungry to learn about the products and use cases that drive the business.
• Understand the AI playing field.
• Have a strong sense of ownership, be inquisitive and enthusiastic about technology, enjoy being continually challenged, and consistently demonstrate sound judgment in navigating complex and ambiguous situations.
• Have a love for problem solving.
• Have great drive to get things done.
• Have a lot of gas in the tank!
• Have a JD and license or qualification to practice in CA.
• Be based in the SF Bay Area, or willing to relocate here.
• Must be committed to being in-office in Palo Alto, CA at least 4 days/week.
• Must have both a sense of adventure and a sense of humor.

Annual Salary Range

• $200,000 - $350,000 USD
