Morningstar DBRS is expanding its presence in Asia Pacific and is seeking a Vice President for Business Development in Sydney. This role involves driving APAC expansion, cultivating relationships with asset managers, issuers, and intermediaries across various asset classes like structured finance, project and infrastructure finance, corporates, and financial institutions. The successful candidate will leverage a solid understanding of credit market dynamics to expand ratings coverage and grow revenues, working closely with the Managing Director, APAC Business Development.
Must Have:
  • Build and drive a highly effective business development program for Asia Pacific, with a primary focus on Australia and key cross border opportunities in Asia.
  • Expand ratings coverage and grow revenues through a systematic calling program and strategic marketing activities.
  • Develop and execute on a targeted outreach program to investors, both in-region and international.
  • Maintain comprehensive contact and workflow information on CRM systems, monitor key metrics and communicate results as appropriate to senior executives.
  • Identify opportunities for new product development.
  • Work across internal groups including international business development colleagues, compliance, marketing, and customer service.
  • Coordinate with our marketing team on development of DBRS Morningstar promotion activities including industry conferences.
  • University degree in a related field.
  • Minimum 12 years of relevant experience at an asset manager, bank or rating agency.
  • Solid understanding of capital markets instruments, structured finance and credit rating agencies.
  • Able to showcase tangible, quantifiable achievements in key areas such as revenue growth, market expansion and strategic partnerships.
  • Proven track record of building and maintaining relationships with capital markets participants and influencers.
  • Ability to deliver outstanding client service with clear and effective written and verbal communication.
  • Strong presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Able to multi-task and work independently while collaborating effectively as a team player in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Proficient in Salesforce, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word.

About the role

Morningstar DBRS’ Business Development team is seeking a Vice President to join them in Sydney, their new head office for the Asia Pacific region. This role will appeal to candidates motivated by the unique opportunity to help drive the APAC expansion of one of the world’s four largest rating agencies.

As a key member of our Sydney team, you will play an important role in building our business development efforts across all asset classes covering structured finance, project and infrastructure finance, corporates and financial institutions. You will cultivate strong relationships with asset managers, issuers, arrangers, intermediaries and other influencers, driving market demand for our ratings and insights.

Success in this role requires a solid understanding of both public and private credit market dynamics; a high-impact approach to market engagement; and the ability to work effectively across our global teams to deliver timely and effective solutions to our clients. The role reports to and works closely with the Managing Director, APAC Business Development and is located in the Barangaroo offices of Morningstar Inc.
