Job Description

The Welder will work collaboratively with others to produce custom-built mobile material handling machinery. Responsibilities include welding fabricated parts, testing and calibrating parts, and using hand and power tools. The Welder must identify and repair units that fail tests and assist less experienced team members. Other responsibilities include following safety regulations, fabricating small components, completing forms, participating in meetings, and adhering to quality management system requirements. The job requires reading blueprints, operating tools and equipment, and maintaining high-quality standards.
Must have:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 3-5+ years in custom build shop preferred
  • 2 years of MIG experience preferred
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints
  • Ability to operate a computer to read and input data
  • Ability to operate hand tools and read measuring devices
  • Ability to read and interpret 3D prints/schematics to complete standard work
  • Ability to communicate effectively to team members and management

Who will you be working with?

Shuttlewagon, a Wabtec Company is looking for a welder. The welder will work collaboratively with others in similar roles to produce highly engineered, custom built mobile material handling machinery for rail related markets by using mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic assembly techniques as well as welding, electrical wiring and hitching on overhead cranes and jibs.

How will you make a difference?

As a member of the Components Division, you will be responsible for welding fabricated parts, components, or units at floor stations. You will test and calibrates parts and mechanisms to meet tolerances and product specifications. You will also use hand and power tools to assemble units according to product specifications. You will be required to identify units that fail tests or tolerance levels and repairs as necessary. Team members may assist less experienced team members with knowledge and expertise.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Experience

  • 3-5+ years in custom build shop preferred
  • Technical Skills
  • 2 years of MIG experience preferred

  • Ability to read and interpret 3D prints/schematics to complete standard work

What will your typical day look like?

  • Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations.  Maintain departmental housekeeping standards.
  • Ability to fabricate small components.
  • Complete production and quality assurance forms.
  • Participate actively in team meetings and group discussions.
  • Interface with engineering to accurately communicate information.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement activities or events as required.
  • Adhere to Quality Management System Requirements.
  • Follow and maintain 5S activities.
  • Read and follow standard work, BOM’s, blueprints, routings, specifications and other diagrams/instructions in order to paint parts and equipment in an accurate and timely fashion
  • Obtain necessary tools and equipment
  • Handle material, tools and equipment manually or with jib crane, performing own hitching as required
  • Maintain high quality standards
  • Consistently maintains level of productivity as determined by management
  • Prepare machinery for shipping

What about the physical demands of the job?

  • Employee is required to wear appropriate PPE such as steel toe boots and safety glasses
  • Employee is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, crouch, bend, work underneath equipment, reach above shoulders, and climb
  • Employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Employee will be working in the typical conditions of a manufacturing environment including seasonal variation in temperatures and occasional exposure to manufacturing fumes or by-products

You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.

The starting hourly rate of this position is $22.00 

The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location.
