Wētā FX is offering an Animation Internship (In honour of Julie Baines) for the 2025/26 summer break. This opportunity allows interns to work alongside and learn from top animators, experiencing Wētā FX’s culture of excellence. It aims to inspire New Zealand female artists and those from diverse backgrounds to pursue digital animation careers. Applicants must be New Zealand residents, amateur artists with less than 12 months professional experience, and possess basic 3D/Maya skills.

We are pleased to again be offering a Wētā FX Animation Internship (In honour of Julie Baines) for the 2025/26 summer break.

This Internship honours Julie Baines (1993-2020), an animator at Wētā FX. Julie had a lifelong love for filmmaking and was a talented young animator.

This is an amazing opportunity to work alongside and learn from some of the world’s top animators and experience Wētā FX’s culture of excellence. We hope that the Wētā FX Animation Internship will inspire other New Zealand female artists and those from diverse backgrounds to live their dreams and pursue digital animation as a career path.

Internship Eligibility

  • Be a New Zealand resident
  • We particularly encourage applications from female artists and artists with diverse cultural backgrounds, including Māori and Pasifika who are under-represented in animation
  • You must be an amateur artist with a passion for Animation, with less than 12 months of professional experience
  • Basic 3D/Maya skills are required
