Glitch Productions is seeking a 3D Asset Lead to work on-site at their Parramatta studio. The role involves leading a team of four 3D artists, ensuring timely and high-quality asset delivery. Responsibilities include mentoring artists, creating 3D assets (characters, props, environments), providing feedback, contributing to look development, assessing timelines, leading reviews, testing pipelines, documenting workflows, developing tools, and fostering a positive work culture. The ideal candidate will have over 5 years of industry experience in 3D modeling, deep expertise in Unreal Engine 5 and Substance Painter, an excellent eye for 3D artwork, proficiency in Maya, Photoshop, ZBrush, and a strong understanding of anatomy and texturing. Experience with Gmod or the Source engine, and additional skills in illustration, animation, VFX, or technical art are considered bonus.
Must have:
  • 5+ years industry experience in 3D modelling
  • Expertise in Unreal Engine 5 and Substance Painter
  • Excellent eye for high quality 3D artwork
  • Proficiency in Maya, Photoshop, ZBrush, or other 3D software
  • Strong understanding of anatomy, form, shape, structure, and silhouette
  • Ability to model and texture complex scenes, characters, and background items
  • Ability to model hard surface items and characters, particularly vehicles
  • Familiarity with current gen graphics
  • Ability to create textures for various shaders
  • Good sense of volume, lighting and materials
  • Strong time management skills and ability to work independently
  • Ability to work as a team player
  • Able to take direction and work towards specific objectives with minimal supervision
Good to have:
  • Experience with Gmod and/or the Source engine
  • Additional expertise in illustration, animation, VFX, or technical art

Glitch Productions is an independent animation studio based in Australia making original, long form animated shows distributed on Youtube. Our channel has over 13 million subscribers, tens of millions of views per episode and is still growing strong. Our studio is filled with incredibly talented and passionate artists that are determined to change the way animation is produced and treated in the industry. Our latest IP; Digital Circus, has amassed over 350 million views on the pilot alone and we have a lot more still to come.

 

Role Information: 

Glitch Productions is looking for a highly capable and diligent 3D Asset Lead to work onsite at our Parramata studio and oversee a team of four artists, balancing people leadership with hands-on production responsibilities. You’ll play a key role in ensuring assets are delivered on time and to a high standard by guiding the team through established pipelines and processes. 

Working with the vision set by the Creative Supervisor, you’ll get to expand the horizons of our several animated series like The Amazing Digital Circus and Gaslight District. We have a wide variety of artstyles and aesthetics in our shows, offering our team a chance to expand their skills and experiment all the time.


Your duties will include:

  • Lead and mentor a talented team of 3D artists, supporting their growth through coaching, and regular check-ins.
     
  • Create high-quality 3D assets including characters, props, vehicles, and environments that meet both artistic and technical requirements.
     
  • Work with the Creative Supervisor to review and provide feedback on team submissions ensuring quality, consistency, and adherence to style and pipeline standards.
     
  • Contribute to look development for new projects, helping define visual styles, materials, shaders, and workflows.
     
  • Work closely with production to assess delivery timelines, advise on scheduling, and help allocate tasks based on team capacity, skill levels, and development opportunities.
     
  • Drive team reviews and lead stand-ups and check-ins, ensuring visibility across disciplines and alignment on creative goals.
     
  • Test asset pipelines and usability, flagging potential technical or artistic issues and suggesting improvements.
     
  • Maintain clear documentation of best practices and creation workflows, and provide feedback on proposed pipelines and styles from a practical production lens.
     
  • Develop tools and production assets to improve efficiency and support the evolving needs of the art team.
     
  • Foster a healthy, sustainable working culture, advocating for realistic timelines and balanced workloads in collaboration with production managers.
 

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 5+ years industry experience in 3D modelling.
  • Deep expertise in Unreal Engine 5 and Substance Painter
  • An excellent eye for high quality 3D artwork.
  • Proficiency in Maya, Photoshop, ZBrush, or other 3D software.
  • Exceptional understanding of human and non-humanoid anatomy, with a strong eye for form, shape, structure, and silhouette.
  • Ability to model and texture complex but realistic high-rez & low rez scenes, characters and background items.
  • Ability to model hard surface items and characters, particularly vehicles.
  • Familiar with current gen graphics.
  • Ability to create textures for use with various shaders (specular maps, normal maps, etc.)
  • Good sense of volume, lighting and materials.
  • Have strong time management skills and be able to reliably work independently.
  • Ability to work as a team player with designers, directors and producers.
  • Team player, able to take direction, work toward very specific objectives with minimal supervision.

Bonus Skills

  • Experience with Gmod and/or the Source engine.
  • Additional expertise in illustration, animation, VFX, or technical art.
