As Art Director - Materials/Textures at Infinity Ward, you will lead and oversee the development of high-quality game materials, ensuring consistency and a cohesive visual identity. Responsibilities include establishing best practices, collaborating with various teams (Art Directors, Tech Art, Rendering), driving innovation, providing mentorship, prioritizing tasks, and contributing to pre-production planning. You will create and maintain documentation of processes. The ideal candidate possesses expert-level material artistry skills in AAA game development (8+ years), strong PBR workflow and shader creation understanding, proactive problem-solving abilities, and a compelling portfolio showcasing technical and artistic expertise.
Must have:
  • 8+ years AAA game development experience as Material Artist or Lead
  • Expert in PBR workflows, advanced shader creation, and material optimization
  • Strong problem-solving skills and proactive approach
  • High-quality game-ready materials portfolio
  • Lead and mentor material art team
  • Collaborate with Art Directors, Tech Art and Rendering teams

Your Mission

As a Art Director - Materials/Textures at Infinity Ward, you will be expected to lead and oversee the development of high-quality materials that align with the studio's artistic vision and technical standards. Your responsibilities will include ensuring consistency across all material assets, establishing best practices, and maintaining a cohesive visual identity. You will collaborate closely with Art Directors, Tech art and Rendering team, and other key stakeholders to drive innovation and achieve excellence in material creation

  • Provide mentorship and guidance to the material art team
  • Prioritizes and assigns tasks and initiatives to their team to ensure the best possible results, while aligning with Directors, Production and OS managers. 
  • Helps drive the planning and pre-production efforts of each assigned environment 
  • Create documentation of processes for others to follow as needed
     

Player Profile

Experience: Proven track record as an expert-level Material Artist or lead, preferably in AAA game development, with at least 8+ years of experience in creating and leading material pipelines.

Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of PBR workflows, advanced shader creation, material optimization techniques

Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to addressing technical and artistic challenges.

Portfolio: A portfolio showcasing high-quality, game-ready materials, highlighting both artistic and technical expertise.

Education: A degree in Fine Arts, Computer Graphics, or a related field is preferred but not required.

Tools: Familiar with modern level editor and editor workflows... Substance Designer, Substance Painter, Adobe Photoshop, UE4, Unity, etc

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $134,000.00 - $247,900.00 Annual. These values reflect the expected base pay range of new hires across all U.S. locations. Ultimately, your specific range and offer will be based on several factors, including relevant experience, performance, and work location. Your Talent Professional can share this role’s range details for your local geography during the hiring process. In addition to a competitive base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for incentive compensation. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed. While we strive to provide competitive offers to successful candidates, new hire compensation is negotiable.
