About the role
Your mission is to bring 3D environments to life by designing lighting that aligns with artistic direction and enhances player immersion. Your work highlights both scenes and characters, while balancing aesthetics with gameplay requirements. Thanks to your expertise, each world gains emotion, clarity, and intensity, making your role a key pillar in the success of the production.
Responsibilities
- Ensure that lighting deliverables are completed in accordance with the production schedule
- Maintain a balance between visual quality and performance requirements
- Ensure artistic consistency of lighting with the style defined by the Art Director
- Collaborate with Level artists, FX artists, and Art direction team to determine the best approach for resolving lighting-related challenges
- Work closely with Designers to ensure that lighting supports missions, objectives, and game pacing
- Collaborate with Programmers to integrate new lighting techniques into the engine
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in Video game lighting
- Advanced proficiency in 3DS Max and Photoshop
- Proven experience with lighting in a game engine
- Strong understanding of development constraints specific to video game environments
- Solid grasp of lighting techniques, materials, and shaders, as well as how they function
- Ability to understand and enhance an artistic direction, while respecting and extrapolating visual intentions
- Understanding of visual composition principles to highlight scenes and enhance immersion
- Sensitivity to gameplay, ensuring lighting aligns with objectives, pacing, and player experience
- Ability to turn changes and iterations into improvement opportunities through a solution-oriented approach
- Strong interest in technical aspects and learning new tools
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Excellent artistic sensibility and attention to detail
- Bilingual in French and English (spoken and written)
- Passion for video games

- Knowledge of HDR and its applications in lighting
- College or university education in art, multimedia, or 3D
