We are seeking a proactive and experienced Planning Engineer with 7–10 years of comprehensive experience in project and production planning within heavy engineering industries, particularly in the fabrication of combustion equipment, pressure vessels, and heat exchangers. The candidate will be responsible for end-to-end project scheduling, resource planning, interdepartmental coordination, and progress tracking to ensure timely project execution aligned with organizational objectives.
Must have:
  • Study purchase orders, technical specifications, engineering drawings, and customer requirements.
  • Conduct internal kick-off meetings to align all departments with project scope and timelines.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules using planning tools (MSP / Primavera).
  • Track progress, identify deviations, and implement mitigation measures.
  • Collaborate closely with internal departments (Engineering, Procurement, Production, Quality, Dispatch).
  • Attend regular meetings with Project Engineers, stakeholders, and clients.
  • Generate weekly/monthly progress reports with Planned vs Actual status.
  • Flag potential delays and suggest corrective action plans to management.
  • Capture and document planning-related challenges and resolutions.
  • Assist in fabrication planning by interpreting drawings and planning manufacturing sequences.
  • Define outsourcing scopes, issue technical instructions, and coordinate with vendors.

Position Overview:

  • We are seeking a proactive and experienced Planning Engineer with 7–10 years of comprehensive experience in project and production planning within heavy engineering industries, particularly in the fabrication of combustion equipment, pressure vessels, and heat exchangers. The candidate will be responsible for end-to-end project scheduling, resource planning, interdepartmental coordination, and progress tracking to ensure timely project execution aligned with organizational objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Initiation & Requirement Gathering: Study purchase orders, technical specifications, engineering drawings, and customer requirements to prepare accurate material and service purchase requisitions.
  • Kick-Off Meetings & Schedule Planning: Conduct internal kick-off meetings to align all departments with the project scope and timelines. Develop a detailed manufacturing and execution schedule accordingly.
  • Project Scheduling & Execution Monitoring: Prepare and maintain detailed project schedules using planning tools (MSP / Primavera). Track progress, identify deviations, and implement mitigation measures to meet agreed milestones.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate closely with internal departments including Engineering, Procurement, Production, Quality, and Dispatch to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Client & Project Team Interaction: Attend regular meetings with Project Engineers, stakeholders, and clients to provide updates, resolve issues, and ensure project alignment.
  • Progress Reporting & Analysis: Generate weekly/monthly progress reports with Planned vs Actual status. Flag potential delays and suggest corrective action plans to management and project stakeholders.
  • Lessons Learned Documentation: Capture and document planning-related challenges and resolutions for future project improvement and knowledge sharing.
  • Technical Planning Support: Assist in fabrication planning by interpreting drawings, planning manufacturing sequences, and preparing part drawings, nesting plans, and dispatch strategies.
  • Vendor/Subcontractor Engagement: Define outsourcing scopes, issue technical instructions, and coordinate with vendors for timely completion of outsourced activities.

Key Competencies:

  • Expertise in Critical Chain Project Management (CCPM) and planning tools like MS Project and Primavera.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., Sage X3).
  • Sound understanding of TQM, QMS, WMS, and fabrication best practices.
  • Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings and technical documents.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to drive execution excellence through collaboration and planning discipline.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 8–10 years of experience in project/production planning in heavy engineering, especially involving combustion equipment, pressure vessels, or EPC projects.
  • Working knowledge of MS Project, Primavera, and fabrication planning tools.
  • Exposure to ASME / IBR standards and quality compliance will be an added advantage.
