Based in London, this role partners across regions, balancing global strategy with region-specific execution. It's a player/coach role, combining strategic leadership with day-to-day execution, including producing, optimizing, and amplifying content. This individual will manage the global Digital Media Manager and drive platform performance, governance, and long-term planning. The role collaborates closely with Content, Marketing, and Digital Experience teams, aligning with the broader global content strategy. Experience in regulated industries like financial services is ideal.

  • Define channel-specific KPIs and report regularly on performance with data analytics.
  • Run ongoing tests to optimise creative, cadence, and content format.
  • Support development of LinkedIn and other platform strategies for key spokespeople.
  • Guide rollout of a scalable, compliant employee advocacy program.
  • Ensure consistent and professional social media presence for firm leaders.
  • Partner across Corporate Communications, Content, Marketing, Digital, Brand, regional marketing teams and HR.
  • Liaise with paid media teams for cohesive strategy between paid and organic.
  • Lead social media planning for major campaigns, product launches, and firmwide initiatives.

Role Summary

Russell Investments is seeking a hands-on, strategic Senior Social Media Strategist to lead, shape, and execute on the firm’s global social media program. While based in London, this role partners across regions to ensure alignment and consistency, balancing global strategy with region-specific execution. The remit is global in scope, but designed as a player/coach role – strategic leadership paired with day-to-day execution, setting enterprise-wide strategy while actively producing, optimizing, and amplifying content across platforms.

As a key player/coach, this individual will drive day-to-day execution and platform performance, while also leading governance, cross-functional integration, and long-term planning. This person will manage our global Digital Media Manager and will be expected to roll up their sleeves as needed, writing copy, testing content formats, partnering on campaigns, and measuring outcomes.

This role sits within Corporate Communications and collaborates closely with the Content, Marketing, and Digital Experience teams. Our social media strategy will align to the broader global content strategy and partner closely with the content strategy team to ensure consistency and impact across all channels. The ideal candidate understands what it takes to build a compelling, compliant, and credible presence on social media and has experience navigating highly regulated industries such as asset management or financial services and insurance.

The responsibilities of the individual in this position include:

Regulatory & Business conduct

  • Maintaining and evolving our global social media governance framework, including content approval protocols and employee posting guidance.
  • Delivering social media training for global contributors and ensure regional alignment with policy standards.

Execution & Optimisation

  • Collaborating with the Digital Media Manager to manage weekly publishing calendars, creative briefs, and social copy.
  • Owning the publishing of high-priority posts and executive thought leadership directly when needed.
  • Guaranteeing Russell Investments’ global social media presence is consistent, compelling, and compliant across regions.
  • Ensuring strategy and execution are tightly linked, with meaningful metrics showing impact.
  • Making certain executive and employee voices are elevated through high-quality content.
  • Ensuring governance frameworks are understood and applied globally.
  • Ensuring stakeholders across the firm see social media as a strategic asset – and this role as a trusted partner.
  • In partnership with our head of data analytics, defining channel-specific KPIs and reporting regularly on performance.
  • Running ongoing tests to optimise creative, cadence, and content format.

Executive & Employee Visibility

  • Supporting the development of LinkedIn and other platform strategies for key spokespeople.
  • Guiding the rollout of a scalable, compliant employee advocacy program.
  • Ensuring a consistent and professional social media presence for firm leaders.
  • Collaboration & Influence
  • Partnering across Corporate Communications, Content, Marketing, Digital, Brand, regional marketing teams and HR.
  • Liaising with paid media teams to ensure a cohesive strategy between paid and organic.
  • Leading social media planning for major campaigns, product launches, and firmwide initiatives.

The successful candidate will have extensive demonstrable skills and experiences including the following:

  • Significant experience in social media or digital communications, ideally in financial services, asset management, or another regulated industry.
  • Experience managing social media strategy and content in both global and regional contexts.
  • Skilled at creating compelling, concise content across platforms – especially LinkedIn and YouTube.
  • Comfortable working with compliance and level teams to interpret and apply regulatory guidance.
  • Familiarity with enterprise tools (e.g., Sprout Social, social listening, CMS (Adobe) and analytics platforms)
  • Strong writing, editing, and project management skills.
  • Able to translate business goals into compelling, compliant content strategies across global platforms.
  • Confident influencing senior stakeholders.
  • Deep knowledge of social media strategy, analytics, governance, and best practices in regulated industries.
  • Proven ability to innovate within compliance frameworks.
  • Works effectively across geographies and functions (Content Marketing, Digital, Compliance).
  • Builds trust and alignment while navigating differing regional priorities.
  • Strong project management and organisational skills.
  • Balances long-term strategy with day-to-day delivery, adapting quickly to emerging priorities.
  • Uses data to drive decision-making, optimise performance, and clearly demonstrate ROI of social programs.
