Sony Pictures Television Studios (SPTS) seeks a Director for Franchise Marketing to report to the VP of Franchise Management. This role involves creating and implementing strategies to grow brand value for key IP in the Sony Television library, encompassing classic and new content across live action, animation, and kids. The ideal candidate will have recent experience developing television entertainment brands, understanding social, fandom, and driving engagement through brand extensions, with extensive licensing experience across various categories including toys, apparel, publishing, gaming, and location-based entertainment.
Must have:
  • Identify franchise potential and in-show product opportunities.
  • Align internal stakeholders on content priorities.
  • Develop strong relationships with show producers for input and approvals.
  • Create and execute 3–5-year franchise plans for IP launch, build, and sustain.
  • Liaise with Sony Consumer Products on assets, strategy, approvals, and retail marketing.
  • Oversee IP strategy and marketing for the studio store.
  • Lead product development for publishing and gaming categories.
  • Integrate and enhance franchise elements in series with production.
  • Approve SCP style guides and product development with creators.
  • Maximize music strategies and project manage concerts with Sony Music.
  • Partner with streamers to maximize series support via brand extensions.
  • Create compelling presentations, sizzles, and sales materials.
  • Set up an efficient share site for all franchise assets.
  • Negotiate and implement promotional partnerships to elevate brands.
  • Identify ticketed events and new opportunities with Location Based Entertainment.
  • Implement strong project management systems for execution.
  • Create long-term franchise marketing plans with new content and social strategies.
  • Proven track-record building strong internal and external relationships.
  • Excels in a team environment.
  • Possess a 4-year degree.
  • 5-10+ years’ experience in entertainment franchise development, licensing, retail marketing.
  • Understand streaming metrics, franchise IQ, and entertainment research.
  • Strong retail and brand marketing experience.
  • Expertise in multi-media strategies for successful brand creation.
  • Deep understanding of social and YouTube analytics.
  • Track record of successful brand campaigns.
  • Capable of putting together compelling sales presentations.
  • Direct experience negotiating licensing and other deals.
  • Strong problem solver overcoming obstacles to achieve results.
  • Proficiency in Keynote and Power Point.

As the largest independent TV studio in the industry, SPTS produces 50+ shows each year including THE BOYS, COBRA KAI, THE GOOD DOCTOR, OUTLANDER, and MESSI AND THE GIANTS. SPTS is part of the larger Sony Pictures Television (SPT) division. SPTS is a Sony Pictures Entertainment Company, a subsidiary of Tokyo-based Sony Group Corporation.

We are looking for a Director to report to the new VP of Franchise Management. The new role of Director SPTS Franchise will be focused on creating and implementing strategies that will grow brand value for key IP in the Sony Television library for classic and new content across live action, animation and kids. We are specifically looking for a candidate with recent experience developing television entertainment brands with a demonstrated understanding of social, fandom and driving engagement through brand extensions. The candidate must have extensive experience in licensing across genres and categories including toys, apparel, publishing, gaming as well as pop-up location-based entertainment and music. Core responsibilities:

  • Expert on all SPTV content identifying franchise potential, in-show product opportunities and aligning internal stakeholders on priorities.
  • Develop strong relationships with show producers to seek input and approvals.
  • Assist VP in creating and executing 3–5-year franchise plans focused on the launch, build and sustain of IP across adult, kid and animated content.
  • Key liaison with Sony Consumer Products on all aspects of consumer products including assets procurement, creative strategy, product approvals and retail marketing.
  • Oversee IP strategy and marketing for the studio store working with production to secure early assets.
  • Lead product development for content driven categories such as publishing and gaming.
  • Work with production and producers to integrated and enhance franchise elements in series and gather early assets for product development.
  • Guide and approve all SCP style guides and product development working closely with producers and creators to garner input and approvals.
  • Work with Sony Music teams to maximize music strategies and project manage all concerts and other music events.
  • Partner with streamers to maximize support for series through ancillary brand extensions.
  • Create and influence compelling presentations, sizzles and other sales materials.
  • Set up an efficient share site to house all franchise assets from decks to art to video.
  • Seek out, negotiate and implement promotional partnerships to elevate brands.
  • Identify ticketed event and new opportunities working with Location Based Entertainment team and implement strong project management systems for execution.
  • Work closely with marketing to create long term franchise marketing plans identifying new content and social strategies.
  • Proven track-record building strong relationships internal and external and excels in a team environment.

Requirements:

  • 4-year degree, MBA a plus.
  • 5-10+ years’ work experience in entertainment franchise development, licensing and retail marketing working across both kids and adults.
  • Understanding of streaming metrics, franchise IQ and other entertainment franchise research.
  • Strong retail and brand marketing experience.
  • Proven expertise in using multi-media strategies to create and sustain a successful brand.
  • Deep understanding of social and YouTube analytics and track record of creating successful brand campaigns.
  • Expert presenter capable of putting together compelling sales presentations.
  • Direct experience negotiating licensing and other deals.
  • Strong problem solver with the ability to overcome obstacles to achieve results.
  • Skills: Keynote and Power Point required.
