Job Description

The Director of Strategic Workforce Planning will be responsible for crafting, implementing, and managing strategic workforce planning processes, aligning workforce goals with business goals, and contributing to talent strategy. This involves using external market intelligence data and technology, including Workday. The role requires experience in team leadership, program management, analytics, and strategic communication to engage stakeholders and drive the adoption of workforce planning processes. The candidate should also have familiarity with workforce standards and definitions across functional areas.

Key Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Extensive experience of crafting, implementing and running strategic workforce planning processes, aligning workforce goals with business goals and feeding into downstream talent strategy (build, borrow, buy) action planning.
  • Including experience in using external (e.g. contingent) labour market intelligence data and tooling to enrich strategic workforce planning outputs.
  • Direct experience of Workday technology, data and processes. Including position management, requisition controls and master data management (e.g. cost centre attribution and reconciliation)
  • Solid understanding of market technologies that support WFP/WFA, including Adaptive, Prism, Oracle WFP. Familiarity with recruitment technologies – including Fieldglass, LinkedIn, Workday ATS, Beamery, Broadbean, Talent Neuron and LinkedIn insights.
  • Team Leadership: Demonstrable experience in previous leadership roles, including establishing new teams and building a strategic workforce planning capability from scratch. Ability to act as an SME individual contributor but also lead diverse and multifunctional programme teams to achieve collective results.
  • Programme Management: Exhibits proven track record in leading large, high profile strategic programmes of work (£mm workforce scope), with the ability to coordinate multiple WF initiatives simultaneously. This should include external vendors, software providers, consulting partners, enablement teams and product experts.
  • Analytics and Scenario Modelling: Ability to provide and read analytics data from enterprise software platforms. Contributing to the design of multi horizon planning scenarios (operational, strategic and multi-year planning).
  • Strategic Communication and Influencing: Demonstrate excellent communication, storytelling and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels – including Executive Committee level - and drive the adoption of strategic workforce planning processes and plans.
  • Workforce standards and definitions ownership: familiarity with contributing to key HR and workforce definitions including headcount, grade and workforce types. Understanding how to compromise across functional areas (HR/Finance/Procurement) to find common goals and shared metrics for enterprise success.
