Rolls-Royce is seeking an Engineering Manager – Non-Conformance Authority in Bristol. This role involves leading a team of engineering staff to deliver dispositioning of Non-Conformance, including Concession, Deviation Permit, Technical Assurance Document, and Definition Alteration Request. The manager will ensure product and people safety, drive delivery milestones, and implement continuous improvement initiatives. Responsibilities also include managing off-loaded workload, serving as a technical interface, presenting performance metrics, ensuring compliance, and managing resources and team competencies.
Must have:
  • Leadership of the Non-Conformance Authority (NCA) engineering staff, delivering engineering dispositioning of Non-Conformance.
  • Ensure the safety of products and people.
  • Determine and drive non-conformance delivery milestones, including ‘Top 90’ priority targets and 10% backlog reduction.
  • Drive continuous improvement through ‘improvement workstreams’ to maximise effectiveness of non-conformance delivery.
  • Manage the off-load of non-conformance workload to the Fully Managed Service provider.
  • Serve as the prime customer and programme technical interface for NCAs and DARs.
  • Maintain and present metrics and business performance to Engineering and Programme leadership teams.
  • Ensure compliance with company processes and policies, as well as external requirements.
  • Manage the resource and budget, engaging in regular planning cycles and prioritisation mechanisms.
  • Maintain and develop competencies within the team, supporting professional development and succession planning.
  • Ensure appropriate team resources are deployed, directed and co-ordinated.

What you will be doing

  • Leadership of the Non-Conformance Authority (NCA) engineering staff, delivering engineering dispositioning of Non-Conformance including Concession, Deviation Permit, Technical Assurance Document (TAD) and Definition Alteration Request (DAR).
  • Ensure the safety of our products and of our people.
  • Determine and drive non-conformance delivery milestones, including the ‘Top 90’ priority targets plus the 10% backlog reduction.
  • Drive continuous improvement through the ‘improvement workstreams’ to maximise the effectiveness of non-conformance delivery.
  • Manage the off-load of non-conformance workload to the Fully Managed Service provider, looking at opportunities to improve the effectiveness of non-conformance output.
  • Serve as the prime customer and programme technical interface for NCAs and DARs
  • Maintain and present metrics and business performance to the Engineering and Programme leadership teams
  • Ensure compliance with the company's processes and policies, as well as any external requirements
  • Manage the resource and budget and engage, as required, in the regular planning cycles, as well as the appropriate prioritisation mechanisms.
  • Maintain and develop the competencies within the team, and support the professional development and succession planning of this critical team.
  • Ensure appropriate the team's resources are deployed, directed and co-ordinated

  • Qualified to at least degree level.
  • Engineering domain knowledge to enable rapid understanding of the technical subject matter within this role.
  • Project Management experience in planning, controlling budgets and driving to schedules.
  • Engineering and technical competence, sufficient to enable decision making commensurate with size of package.
  • Experience applying Systems approach or equivalent.
  • Experience in leading an Engineering team.
