Job Details

FTSE Russell is undergoing a significant transformation of its Engineering Organization. We aim to deliver state of the art, cloud native platforms allowing our business to scale and innovate.

The Phoenix engineering platform, rebooted in 2024, is the cornerstone of this transformation.

Having the right technology leadership is critical for our success. We are reinventing ourselves and to this end we are building the strongest Enterprise Architecture practice possible.

Functional and Technical capabilities

Functionally, the right candidate will have the ability to start from the problem statement and work backward to the technology.  A strong expertise in market data, index or financial data analytics is important to bridge product, technology, and business strategy together to design the right technology for scale, efficiency, and long-term architecture.

Technically, the right candidate will be proficient in cloud native architectures, specifically AWS. A strong understanding or reliable, secured, maintainable AWS architectures is key to implement the right trade-offs between cost, security, scalability, testability, and maintainability.

Finally, our Enterprise Architect should demonstrate a passion for building market-leading systems, pioneering cutting-edge financial technology, and shaping the future of the benchmark and indices industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and collaboratively with the engineering leads to implement world class mission critical technology solutions meeting functional and non-functional requirements.

  • Lead with influence by engaging with executives, engineers, and product teams to ensure alignment with a strong focus towards execution.

Technology & Architecture Strategy

  • Develop and execute a strategic technology vision that supports our ambition to be the world’s #1 benchmark and indices provider.
  • Architect a scalable, high-performance infrastructure that enables rapid innovation and seamless delivery of all index types.
  • Drive the adoption of modern technologies, ensuring we stay ahead of industry trends and regulatory requirements.
  • Pave the way for building a platform that enables the standardization of customization of our indexes: we aim to be able to deliver on the customization needs of our client base through standard custom algorithms combined together to model investment strategies.

Business & Product partnerships

  • Partner with product, engineering, operations and other business leaders to ensure technology decisions are aligned with business goals and client needs.
  • Be a thought partner to Operations and Product.
  • Bridge the gap and connect the dots between the various departments of the organization to identify partnerships and create alignment towards common objectives.

Leadership & Change Management

  • Engage, mentor, and inspire cross-functional teams to drive technology transformation.
  • Articulating what a market-leading benchmark and indices business looks like—and delivering it.
  • Simplify complex challenges into clear, actionable deliverables enabling business-wide innovation.

Job Requirements

  • Proven success in leading enterprise architecture within financial services, related to indexing and/or market data analytics.
  • Strong knowledge of capital markets and financial instruments.
  • Good balance between engineering, operational and financial product expertise.
  • Certifications in cloud architecture, data engineering, and data analytics. AWS Certified Architects with a strong knowledge on financial instruments will be a strong plus.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to influence C-level executives and collaborate across teams.
  • A track record of delivering large-scale technology transformations that drive business growth and market leadership.
