AECOM’s Water Business Line is seeking an Entry-Level Architectural Designer / Architect to support water, wastewater treatment, flood protection, and associated projects in Chelmsford, MA. This role involves applying standard architectural techniques to design water and wastewater facilities, preparing technical specifications, verifying code compliance, and creating design drawings within Revit. The position offers a unique opportunity to work under licensed architects, develop judgment, and contribute to innovative projects, with occasional travel throughout North America. Candidates should be detail-oriented, capable of teamwork, and adaptable to shifting priorities.
Must have:
  • Apply standard architectural techniques for water/wastewater design.
  • Develop architectural plans, elevations, sections, details, and life safety plans.
  • Prepare technical specifications.
  • Verify code compliance for existing facility alterations.
  • Create design drawings, plans, and sections within Revit.
  • Work under senior architect mentorship.
  • Travel occasionally throughout North America.
  • Hold a Bachelor of Architecture degree or equivalent.
  • Possess a valid U.S. driver’s license and pass MVR review.
Good to have:
  • Master’s degree in Architecture or equivalent.
  • Prior related intern and/or professional experience.
  • Capable of using spreadsheet, word processing, and standard office software.
  • Basic knowledge of Revit, Bluebeam, and other architectural software.
  • Detail-oriented with understanding of project goals.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Strong logic and writing skills.
  • Accurate time and effort documentation.

Job Description

AECOM’s Water Business Line is seeking a talented Entry-Level Architectural Designer / Architect to support water, wastewater treatment, flood protection, and associated projects in our Chelmsford, MA office. This position offers a unique opportunity to work within an established and successful national group under the direct responsible charge and supervision of Licensed Architects that offers a diverse range of technical challenges and career development opportunities. This position is expected to begin as soon as possible.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform assignments which require the application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to carry out architectural tasks associated with the design of water and wastewater treatment facilities. Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.
  • Exercise architectural judgment for the development of architectural plans, elevations, sections, and details including three dimensional views and life safety plans.
  • Prepare technical specifications.
  • Verify compliance with applicable codes and standards/practice in the alteration of existing facilities.
  • Prepare design drawings, plans, sections, details, and profiles/sections within a Revit model.
  • Work under the mentorship and supervision of a senior architect.
  • Willingness and ability to occasionally travel to sites throughout North America.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Architecture or demonstrated equivalency of education and/or experience.
  • Must have a valid U.S driver’s license and as a condition of employment, must be able to pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Architecture, or equivalent education/experience.
  • Prior related intern and/or professional experience.
  • Capable of using spreadsheet, word processing, and standard office software.
  • Basic knowledge of industry-standard computer software for the position such as Revit, Bluebeam, and other commercially available architectural packages.
  • Detail-oriented while still able to understand/comply with the big picture/goals of a project.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Strong logic and writing skills.
  • Documents time and effort accurately.
  • Ability to work productively in a team environment.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Flexible – can adapt to shifting priorities/work schedules.
  • Able to work independently.
  • Self-learner.
  • Can take directions from others and in turn can guide others.
