Full Stack Software Engineer
Liquid Robotics is seeking a mid-career Full Stack Software Engineer to join our team in the development of autonomous ocean robots. In this role, you will work with a team of software engineers, pilots, and operations experts in the development, testing, and maintenance of shoreside control software for our Wave Glider platform. The successful candidate will bring excellent problem-solving skills and proven ability in software development and software lifecycle best practices. This role reports directly to our Software Engineering Manager and is based in Herndon, Virginia.
Essential Responsibilities
- Work with business, customer, and internal teams to identify software use cases and requirements.
- Develop and document software architectures and designs that meet software requirements.
- Participate in product evolution definition and planning.
- Prototype and perform trade studies to help optimize designs for cost, schedule and performance.
- Implement solutions using industry best practices and processes.
- Work with Test and QA to develop test plans and support test execution.
- Support and lead software peer reviews and gate reviews.
- Work with IT and DevOps teams to successfully deploy and maintain production software systems.
- Work with Business Development team to support proposal development and customer demonstrations.
Key Attributes:
- High proficiency in one prototyping and one object-oriented language; for example, Python and C#.
- High proficiency in full stack application design and development using modern frameworks; Microsoft stack (.NET, MS SQL Server) is preferred but not required.
- Ability to document and present architecture and design decisions clearly using formal models, such as C3/C4, 4+1, UML, etc.
- Strong understanding of the software lifecycle, including related artifacts and gate reviews.
- Ability to scope, constrain, focus on, and deliver applications that meet customer needs.
- Strong problem solving and debug abilities applied to complex problems.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to effectively exchange information with technical teams, nontechnical stakeholders, and customers.
- Applies best practices in software, including configuration management, peer reviews, testing, and documentation.
Minimum Qualifications:
- BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
- 6-10 years of direct experience in software architecture, design, and development.
- Strong experience in software lifecycle best practices.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience with the Liquid Robotics Wave Glider systems or other autonomous marine vehicles is a strong discriminator.

Ability to obtain a US Secret Clearance required.
Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Summary pay range: $95,000 - $169,000
