Job Description
Job Summary
The Industrial Engineer, Logistics will design, develop, and implement solutions to optimize our company's supply chain operations, including warehousing, inventory management, transportation, and distribution. This role requires a blend of industrial engineering principles with logistics and data analysis to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance overall productivity. The ideal candidate is an analytical and collaborative problem-solver who can drive continuous improvement across the logistics network.
Essential duties and responsibilities
- Analyze and optimize processes: Evaluate current logistics workflows, from receiving to shipping, to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Design facility layouts: Develop and update efficient warehouse and distribution center layouts to maximize space utilization and streamline material flow.
- Conduct data analysis: Use data modeling, time studies, and simulation tools to analyze operational performance, forecast demand, and test the effectiveness of new system designs.
- Manage inventory strategies: Design and implement optimized inventory management strategies to reduce costs and improve accuracy across the network.
- Optimize transportation: Analyze transportation networks, evaluate delivery routes, and explore transportation optimization strategies to lower freight costs and enhance delivery times.
- Implement process improvements: Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives, such as Lean and Six Sigma projects, and implement automated solutions and new technologies.
- Collaborate with teams: Partner with cross-functional teams, including operations, procurement, IT, and sales, to implement logistics strategies that align with broader business goals.
- Develop standards: Create and maintain documentation for standard operating procedures (SOPs) and standard work to ensure consistent and efficient operations.
- Report on performance metrics: Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and report on logistics performance to stakeholders, communication opportunities and results.
Qualifications
Required qualifications and skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, Logistics Engineering, or a related field. A master’s degree is a plus.
- Experience: 3+ years of experience in an industrial engineering or logistics optimization role, preferably in a warehouse, distribution, or third-party logistics environment.
- Technical skills:
- Proficiency with warehouse management systems (WMS), transportation management systems (TMS), and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
- Experience with layout design software, such as AutoCAD.
- Strong data analysis skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel, SQL, and/or Power BI.
- Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Value Stream Mapping.
- Soft skills:
- Problem-solving: A proactive, analytical, and detail-oriented approach to identifying and solving complex logistical problems.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and present findings to management.
- Project management: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and drive projects to successful completion.
- Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to evolving business needs.
Physical requirements
- Primarily works in an office environment but may require frequent visits to warehouses, manufacturing facilities, or distribution centers.
- The ability to stand, walk, and lift up to 25 pounds may be required.
- Some trips may be necessary for network analysis and site visits.
