RETHINK MANUFACTURING

The only way to ignite change is to build the best team. At Bright Machines®, we’re innovators and experts in our craft who have joined together to create a new category of manufacturing that will help transform the industry. We believe software and data are the answer, thoughtfully applied to solve our customers’ unique challenges. Through intelligent automation, we give factories newfound flexibility, scalability, and resilience. We deliver products to meet the demands of today while building a platform to take advantage of what comes next.

Working with us means you’ll have the opportunity to make lasting, impactful changes for our company and our customers. If you’re ready to apply your exceptional skills to create the factory of the future, we’d love to speak with you.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As part of the IT organization, you will work closely with the R&D team developing factory automation applications. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams that design, manufacture, and commission software-defined manufacturing lines for our customers, with key elements of the software stack deployed in the cloud.

You will be responsible for designing, building, installing, and maintaining the compute and network infrastructure that supports these manufacturing lines. A strong background in networking is essential, as you will be architecting and supporting a hybrid cloud environment that enables global customer needs in areas such as new product introduction, inspection, monitoring, and alerting.

This position also values automation and efficiency; proficiency with scripting (e.g., Python, PowerShell, or similar) is highly desirable for streamlining infrastructure deployment, monitoring, and maintenance. The role requires full lifecycle ownership of the infrastructure backbone, and periodic travel on-site work at customer facilities.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Participate in the design and implementation of our hybrid cloud backbone.
  • Design, provision, configure and maintain:
  • OS: Linux and Windows systems
  • Network: Physical network equipment, and its configuration
  • Storage: Network attached storage
  • Physical Systems: Procure, ship, and install servers, network equipment, and cabling in a rack
  • Install, test, and troubleshoot equipment in server racks at customer facilities
  • Evaluate and design highly available compute and network stacks
  • Full lifecycle: we behave as owners, and expect you to work with other team members to investigate design approaches, prototype new technology and evaluate technical feasibility, to keep improving what we do. That includes defining and implementing standards, and promote best practices for our infrastructure.

WHAT WE WANT TO SEE

  • 5+ years of experience designing and deploying network and compute stacks.
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts and protocols (VLANs, DHCP, DNS, ACLs, NAT, etc.) and hands-on experience with networking hardware such as Aruba, Palo Alto Networks, Cisco, or Fortinet.
  • Familiarity with major cloud platforms, including Microsoft Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP), with the ability to support hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming or scripting language (e.g., Python, Java, Go, C#/C++) and experience with open-source systems (Linux).
  • Strong interest in automation and efficiency, with the ability to identify opportunities to streamline processes through scripting, tooling, or infrastructure-as-code practices.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently across all phases of the infrastructure lifecycle, including procurement, commissioning, deployment, testing, documentation, and collaboration with local IT teams.
  • Willingness and ability to travel, with hands-on support at industrial automation facilities.
  • Practical experience in physically deploying production equipment, including racking hardware and implementing clean, maintainable cable management practices.
  • Proven ability to plan, coordinate, and execute engineering change orders with zero downtime to critical systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally and clearly with both technical teams and key account stakeholders.

IT WOULD BE NICE IF YOU HAD

  • Experience deploying compute and networking equipment manufacturing environments.
  • Previous production experience with Automated Deployment (Ansible, Packer), Hypervisors (Proxmox, ESXi), Monitoring (ELK, Grafana, Zabix), Software Defined Networks (pfSense, UniFi, Aruba), OOBM.
  • Knowledge of database management and migration.
  • Experience communicating with users, technical leaders and management to collect requirements, describe system designs, identify risks and mitigations, and set product strategy.
  • Experience comparable to being a TA for Network, or Operating Systems, or Systems Programming classes.
