Job Description

This internship is within the Signal Processing team of a Radar department at Thales in Limours, France. The intern will evaluate the contributions of the RPCA (Robust Principal Component Analysis) method in filtering the direct path between transmitter and receiver in a multi-static radar configuration. Responsibilities include bibliographic research, mathematical modeling, performance evaluation, algorithm development and testing in a simulation environment, integration on real signals, and documentation of results.
Good To Have:
  • Knowledge in physical modeling, filtering methods, and radar.
Must Have:
  • Prepare for an engineering/master's degree (bac+5) in generalist/mathematics/signal processing.
  • Have an aptitude for applied mathematics.
  • Possess skills/knowledge in applied mathematics, Matlab programming, and bibliographic research.
  • Be ready to train, learn, and take on new challenges.
  • Conduct adapted bibliographic research to understand the RPCA method.
  • Write the mathematical model of the signal to be filtered.
  • Evaluate the expected contributions and limitations of the RPCA method in terms of performance.
  • Use the multi-static radar simulation environment (single-target and multi-target).
  • Develop and test RPCA algorithms in this environment.
  • Test and integrate the algorithm on real signals.
  • Document the obtained results.

Your daily life

Located 20 minutes from the Paris-Saclay technology hub, the site is one of the largest centers of excellence for surface radars. We contribute to developing, designing, integrating, and testing air surveillance radars dedicated to target detection and identification.

You will join the Signal Processing team within a Radar department. You will be responsible for evaluating the contributions of the RPCA (Robust Principal Component Analysis) method in filtering the direct path between the transmitter and receiver of a multi-static radar configuration.

By joining us, you will be entrusted with the following missions:

  • Conduct adapted bibliographic research to understand the RPCA method.
  • Write the mathematical model of the signal to be filtered.
  • Evaluate the expected contributions and limitations in terms of performance of the RPCA method.
  • Use the multi-static radar simulation environment (single-target and multi-target).
  • Develop and test RPCA algorithms in this environment.
  • Test and integrate the algorithm on real signals.
  • Document the obtained results.

Your profile

You are preparing for an engineering/master's degree (bac+5) in a generalist/mathematics/signal processing curriculum.

You have an aptitude for applied mathematics.

You have skills/knowledge in applied mathematics / Matlab programming language / bibliographic research.

Knowledge in physical modeling, filtering methods, and radar are a plus.

You are ready to train, learn, and take on new challenges.
